Feedback Needed  Help me decide, which Eastern Front title next?
I have most of the Panzer Campaign Eastern Front titles and I need to pick my next one.
My preference is for smaller rather than larger scenarios and mobile rather than static scenarios.

Which of the titles below most closely fits the bill?
  • Moscow '42
  • Budapest '45
  • Minsk '44
  • Moscow '41
  • Rzhev '42

Hey Mark:  Smoke7

All titles have Small, Intermediate, and Large scenarios so that selection criteria is not helpful.

I own two of the listed titles:

Budapest '45 - German and Russian attacker mobile scenarios - especially the Konrad ones. Pro: Get to play with late war equipment (King Tigers, Panthers, SPAs, ISU-122s, lend-lease Shermans, etc.) Con: Predominately snow and mud conditions that hamper movement.

Minsk '44 - Russian attacker mobile scenarios - German will play defense and usually be defending at 4-1 or worst odds. Pro: Fun to play as Russians with overwhelming armor, infantry, artillery, and air assets. Also fun to play as Germans if you like a defensive challenge! Con: Germans usually play defense in static lines with some armor reserves so no sweeping maneuver opportunities for them.

Choice also comes down to what Eastern Front time period (Early or late) interests you the most.   Smile

If you want small intermediate + mobile combat the best option in east front is Budapest45.

You have small maps compared with other titles in east and with lower unit density apart that axis side lacks the old quality advantage, not only hungarian troops are a problem, you have to german units that are softer than usual.... and germans are attackers-defenders, depends a lot of scen, is one covering soviet offensive over Budapest that is a good counter to the scens with axis on the attack.

Other good point in Budapest45 is the OOB, variety in units is very high with some exotic formations like SS cavalry brigades or rumanian troops and Shermans in soviet side.

The other titles are good to but maybe move more into bigger actions, specially Moscow42, but they have to the type scens you are looking for.

The only title i dont recomend you is Rzhev is a title very close to Kursk43, not very mobile.

PD: even i dont recommend Minsk44 like budapest45 is true that Minsk44 has one of the scens i like a lot, the Vitebsk trap.

Based on that list I would recommend Budapest 45. Having a King Tiger regiment is epic. Of course you have the problem of Hungarian flank coverage.

Thanks all, Looks like Budapest is coming out on top based on the criteria i offered. That isn't a title I would have looked at had you chaps not pointed me towards it, so thanks for that.

If anyone has got any other comments for or against any of the titles I would love to hear your views on other factors that might be considered.

Budapest '45 or Moscow '41. I just finished up a game of Budapest '45 not long ago. Great title.

I have yet to play the Typhoon scenario from M41 and am looking forward to that eventually.

Thanks Bill, I have taken the plunge and bought Budapest. I Have only had chance to have a brief look at it but so far it looks as if it meets my needs.

As I said I prefer medium and small scenarios to large and huge, how is Moscow '41 for scenario size?.... Moscow '41 is probably going to be my next purchase, depending on how large the majority of the scenarios look.
