Rookie Questions
Hey guys,  I got WITE and am playing my first game against AI.  Two questions- what's the deal with the campaign scenario, "alternate combat values"?  Which side does it favor in combat values?  Is this the one everyone is playing?

Second, I'm playing Axis, and the Russians bomb me mercilessly each turn, but my fighters never seem to intercept....what's up here?  I'm at June of 43, but still have plenty of fighters, they just don't do anything.  They're in range, and my air doctrine intercept is set to 100.  They're set for day ops.  They sometimes escort when I bomb, but they won't intercept Russian bombers, or recon flights.

Thanks!

RE: Rookie Questions
I am playing the sudden death campaign myself.  As for your fighters, make sure your air bases are close behind your lines, the 109s have a short range, and also check your air doctrine screen and make sure air intercept escort is set a bit lower than 100 (if 100 than if the number of fighters the AI thinks it needs to intercept are not available then it won't send them.  For interdiction I use about 60% for escort.

Settings (NOTE FIGHTER INTERCEPT) (NOTE I am only in July 41 and can sweep the Reds from the sky in dogfights so my setting is lower):

**Of course I could be totally wrong!!**

And set some fighters to Night. I remember playing HTH that this started happening and in asking my opponent what he did, he was bombing me at night since I had no intercepts set to that. Not as effective but you won't intercept. I could never see anything that indicated the bombing was at night either, so it fits what you are seeing.

RE: Rookie Questions
Never thought of that, but I thought I saw NACHT fighters in the game at campaign start.

RE: Rookie Questions
I wondèr if nightfighters would also intercept night supply missions to Russian partisans?

RE: Rookie Questions
The tip to set fighters on "night" seems to have solved the problem; I set all my day fighters on "both" for day & night operations, and rather than get chewed up, the AI seems to have given up the night bombing.  My fighters are also doing fine intercepting during daylight, so I'll probably leave on "both" for a while.

RE: Rookie Questions
You will suffer more operational losses in bad landings and such using day fighters for night intercept. I use my 110s for night combat.

RE: Rookie Questions
Don't the Germans have dedicated night fighter squadrons?

NJG (Nachtjagdgeschwader) - Night Fighter Wing

Saw this today in Gris's notes.

Can you get away with just using them for night fighting?
