Buying a game from John Tiller

I don't know if this has been covered previously:  If you buy a game from the John Tiller store which has gone through an upgrade, do you get the most recent version at purchase or do you need to patch?

Usually you get the most recent version, but I guess the only way to make 100% sure is to install it, run it, and then look in the Help -> About and compare the version number there with the latest update version number.
