5 Independent Guards Corps
am searching for additional OOB and TO&E info about the Soviet 5th Independent Guards Korps

The Info that i to now have is that the Corps exist from 1984 to August 1989 in Byelorussia. It's subunits came for the most part of the 120 Motor rifle Division near Minsk.

The subunits who I know are the:
1st Independent Guards Tank brigade or 1.OGvTBr
2nd Independent Guards Tank brigade or 2.OGvTBr
176th Independent Guards Motor Rifle Brigade or 176.OGvMSBr
177th Independent Guards Motor Rifle Brigade or 177.OGvMSBr
310th Guards Artillery Regiment or 310.GvAP
1045th Guards AA or SAM Regiment or 1045.GvZRP
1180th Independent Missile Battalion or 1180.ordn
276th Independent Helicopter Squadron or 276.OVE
1318th Independent Air Assault Regiment or 1318.ODSHBP
46th Independent Reconnaissance Battalion or 46.obriREB
126th Independent Engineer Bn or 126.oisb

A other question has this Corps also a Spetsnaz unit. Most of the Soviet Armies had in this timeframe a independent Spetsnaz Company in their oob.

RE: 5 Independent Guards Corps
120 Gds. Motor-rifle Division (Uruchje).
- 334 gv Motor-rifle Regiment
- 339 gv.Motor-rifle Regiment
- 356 Motor-rifle Regiment
- 355 Gds. Tank Regiment
- 310 Gds. SP Artillery Regiment
- 1045 Gds. SAM Regiment
- 1180 ordn
- 46 Independent Recon Battalion
- 126 Gds. Independent Engineer Bn.

IMPORTANT: during 1984-1989 this reorganised division was named 5 gv.oak (1 gv.tbr, 2 gv.tbr, 176 mbr, 177 gv.mbr, 310 gv.sap, 1045 gv.zrp, 276 ovp, 1318 dshp, 1180 ordn, 46 obr, 126 gv.oisb). In 1989 it reorganised back to 120 gv.msd.

Still dont quite understand how they reorg a division with 3 MRR and 1 TR to a division with 2 TR, if you stay with the standard structure you need more tanks. Leaves me wondering if my theory of filling out the whole corp with reserve troops is true.

Ill look around for you the next couple days when i got time, im a member of a couple Russian sites that i might get some answers on.

About your Spetsnaz unit, that Excel page i sent you is from what ive been able to tell is the most accurate, on 3 different websites they always refer to that one and have made changes to it over the years, now there was other Spetsnaz units but they wernt field troops, off the top of my head there was a 20th and 25th bde but they were intelligence and not your combat troops, long story short if you dont see one on that spreadsheet it probably wasnt there or it was a non combat unit, and also just because it was called a Bde doesnt mean a whole lot, most only had 1 Bn with other units as support.
