Great films. The first one was "what the hell, does everyone have to share pistols and rifles?". Those flour bombs they threw were interesting, blinding the driver and such. Pure fantasy, but interesting.

BTW - did you notice how perfect the trenches were?

I love the acid/smoke/flour bombs! I feel positive that some poor battalion commander really got issued those things, and told with a straight face that they would turn the tide ... the Germans were nutty professors, man.

Obviously, there were some "Berlinwood" production values. I have no idea how they cut such straight trenches in 1943. The part where the AT gun gets knocked out but all of the crew is just fine ... priceless! (Achtung! The viewer will not realize that if that's really his ass, it's grass. That is all!)

Just seeing those T-34s tromp through the forest like King frigging Kong is worth the viewing time, alone ...

You must come visit South Texas one of these days. Envision a giant chain saw with a "blade" about three times as big as a Tiger's treads, hooked up to a cab like that for a huge crane. These monsters cut razor swaths through the local limestone for road building. Instant trench, in stone no less.

Missed that! I assume it was one of the desant squaddies? I did notice a couple of them just about get bucked off as their ride pitched into gear.

Being a huge fan of "close assaults on vehicles" I actually loved the films. So many ways to kill tanks I kept thinking to myslef, so that's how an infantry squad armed with nothing but rifles, LMGs and grenades manages to get a 4% chance on a close assault.

One thing I did find odd though, was how in 1943 the Germans got all those Soviet actors to volunteer :chin: (j/k)

Being a huge fan of "close assaults on vehicles" I actually loved the films. So many ways to kill tanks I kept thinking to myslef, so that's how an infantry squad armed with nothing but rifles, LMGs and grenades manages to get a 4% chance on a close assault.

Nothing better for cheesing off the opposing player than popping the top on several hundred points of MBT with a 21-pt squad.

You've got to love Sepp, though. He gets sent to the truck with the good stuff* and doesn't even *think* about grabbing an AT mine or a panzerfaust. Oh, hell no. Give Sepp a couple of tins of petrol and a hay loft and that boy is a mad playuh!

Did you notice the complete lack of tension between Jerry and Local Peasant Woman 1 at the well? High humor! (I expected the caption to read, "Why hello, subjugated subhuman! How are you today?") That counterweight water-drawing device is as old as the pyramids, too. Older.

* As my former Ranger sniper buddy intones, "Always assign the big-bang gear to the smallest guy in the squad. He's the one who will be looking for any excuse whatsoever to pull the trigger."

I also thought it was funny that nobody could do anything unless they shed their binoculars, web belt and dress belt.

Those trenches were probably dug by inmates and beaten until they were perfect. Now we have trench diggers that can make them like that, but back then I am sure it was the MK1 shovel and 100 calories a day prisoner.

Might have been old habit. The Germans started the war wearing suspenders under their tunic, web gear, and pack. A latrine break was a monumental undertaking. They must have spent half their time undressing and dressing.

Those trenches were probably dug by inmates and beaten until they were perfect. Now we have trench diggers that can make them like that, but back then I am sure it was the MK1 shovel and 100 calories a day prisoner.

They might have been lucky to have the iron Mk 1. Russian peasants were still using wooden shovels and general implements when the Germans started trolling their forums in '41.
