The Germans probe Krivtsova with recon troops. One ac is lost and the Reds lose a ATR squad.

The main German thrust comes under arty fire and suffers losses. The Russian rifle platoon that was spotting runs for their lives.

RE: The Bridgehead at Rzhavets DAR
Turn four:

The German assault on Krivtsovo heats up. The brave defenders take heavy losses south of the river. The Germans loses are high too. Two 251/2s are destroyed by AT guns.

At Kazache, a reinforced rifle company is overrun by Tigers and PzIIIs. One Tiger is destroyed by a 45mm AT gun. The survivors of the assault take flight towards the east.

Hopefully, the sacrifice of these forward troops will buy enough time for the rest of the Russian forces to get in position.

So far the losses are even.

Good work Rob. May I recommend some "before and after" so we can see what changes?

RE: The Bridgehead at Rzhavets DAR
Turn 5:

The defenders of Krivtsovo are crushed by overwhelming German armored forces. The survivors fight to the last man trying to make a dent in the Nazi war machine. The initial estimate of the German's strength in the area proves to be wrong.

The few survivors around Kazache are rounded up by the Germans.

More German forces are detected to the south.

The main conflict has yet to start........

I would provide more images but the 10 MB limit on attachments would be used up too quickly.

Turn Six:

Not much action in the north or center. German units send feelers out looking for my next line of defense. Kurakovka is occupied by the fascists.

In the south the Germans push Russian units off of Hill 207.9.

Russian arty scores a few lucky hits.

RE: The Bridgehead at Rzhavets DAR
Turns Seven and Eight:

The main German efforts seem to be on the northern and southern flanks.
The center of the battlefield which is dominated by a long ridge running north to south has not seen any major German attacks.

To the north German forces push forward after crushing the Krivtsovo bridgehead. Strong fascist aggressors also close in on Rzhavets.

My glorious Russian forces respond by launching an armored attack from the north. The attack hit the Germans in the flank and caused heavy losses to the Panzer grenadiers.

In the south German panzers and grenadiers push ahead. Heavy fighting is coming to this sector.

RE: The Bridgehead at Rzhavets DAR
Turns Nine and Ten:

German panzers supported by grenadiers seize Rzhavets. The Russian defenders take out a few recon units before being overwhelmed. The force consisting of a SMG company and AT guns is wiped out. Russian armor that was rushing to reinforce the town is a turn late. As the Germans move to exploit there success they run into the armor. A T34 platoon is destroyed by Tigers and Mk IVs. Two Tigers are knocked out by a 85mm AA battery and another by a T34 platoon. A T70 company pushes the disrupted Tigers out of LOS to the 85s. T34s come from the north to destroy German recon forces that had pushed out of the Rzhavets bridgehead.

In the north the Germans pull back to Krivtsova and go on the defensive.

In the south, German forces are pushing forward despite taking losses. Several towed guns, including the dreaded 88s, are hit by direct mortar fire and cease to be a threat.

The situation in south remains critical. Brave engineers covered by a smoke screen hold up the blitzkrieg. However, the full weight of the Nazi attack has claimed another victory hex.

The heaviest fighting is yet to come.
