Armour ratings
This is the first in a series of charts I intend doing covering every nation through the war to provide an at-a-glance idea of each units armour thickness, I've simply cut and pasted the in-game data icons with a bit of magnification thrown in.
Note - it's normal to sometimes see a type appear more than once in the charts (eg PzIIIJ) with a different gun or different armour each time, it simply means one was an earlier or later sub-type.
Also, sometimes all the tanks of a family (eg Panther) have the same gun and roughly the same armour (ie no colour difference) so I just use one icon to represent them all.
And to avoid clutter I've left out halftracks and most armoured cars.
The years are just approximate, as types often overlapped into other years

RE: Armour ratings
You forgot to mention that for every color, there are three shades.

From what I have observed, the darker the green the better, the brighter the yellow the better, and the lighter the red the better.

Thus in order: Dark Red, light red, dark orange; light orange, yellow, bright yellow; light green, medium green, dark green; and blue.

Are there any derivatives of blue? Don't think I've seen that.

Cheers!

Alright mate, I'll edit in a few gradations to the colour key..
I assumed everybody already knew that, that's why I try never to clutter up my posts with unnecessary info, I'm a wargamer not a baby-sitter, though sometimes I feel like it..
(For example a noob recently contacted me for a pbem training game, I sent him the set up and said - "Put your guns in woods".
But what did he do? He put them in the open and got toasted... duh)
I wonder which part of - "Put your guns in woods" he didn't understand? Ha ha ha..

Because somebody said - "Hey let's put a long 75mm L/70 gun on a Pz IV chassis and call it the Pz IV/70"

Later somebody said - "Strictly speaking it's a tank destroyer not a tank, so let's call it the Jagdpanzer IV/70"

But both names stuck.

(PS -The 75 L/70 gun wasn't available at first, so they used the 75 L/48)

RE: Armour ratings
EARLY RUSSIAN
(Note - although I've classified the units into early/mid/late-war periods for convenience, in real-life units were often used in more than one period)
Also, don't forget some members of a family may have a different gun to the rest,eg one of the T-34/76's and two of the KV-1's had a weaker L31 gun, so always check.
