Below are comparison distances moved in one turn at 'Fast' on Paved rd, Dirt rd, Open ground and Frozen river, the distances vary quite a bit, I dunno why

They will also lose their skis if ordered to do anything but Move, Move to Contact or Fast. As well, if they are pinned, they lose there skis. I have just experienced this as a couple of snipers are holding up about 5 platoons in snow, when the squads are pinned, they have lost their skis and their movement speed suffers accordingly. Skis are very quick on ice (frozen lakes).
