RE: Whoosh..
You'd think the British would have based their PIAT on the Panzershreck.

I mean they most probably had a captured Panzershreck but still made an inferior weapon?

Or am I underestimating the power of the PIAT?

RE: Whoosh..
This PIAT (below) knocked out a Tiger with its first shot, sure it was only a partial pen but it did the job.. :)
In another game a Tiger was ambushed by several PIATS which peppered it with 6 hits, all of which were partials but the monster refused to die, then a 7th partial finally knocked it out.
The moral? - partials can kill any tank even if the firing weapon can't get a full penetration.
BTW, Because PIATS fire a round propelled by a cartridge they have no smoke backblast to give away their position, which is a great advantage over the smoky rocket-firing schreck and bazooka..
In fact PIATS don't go whoosh at all but have somehow gatecrashed this Whoosh thread..

The Panzerschreck was a copy of the American bazooka which the Germans captured in North Africa. The British had access to the bazooka long before the Germans did. They could have easily made copies of their own or even had the Americans supply them in Lend Lease.

Good Hunting.

RE: Whoosh..
Why copy, when you can re-invent the wheel, or in this case the bazooka.

RE: Whoosh..
In this game the American infantry in left background walked past the clump of trees where a schreck guy was hiding without checking it properly first.
Bad call.. the schreck simply popped up and let fly at the tank pointblank..

RE: Whoosh..
This pic was captioned "bazooka near Bastogne", you can just make out a guy in a cosy position on the right, his rifle is propped up and the bazooka barrel can just be seen pointing down the road

RE: Whoosh..
Panzerfausts are worth mentioning in this thread because they go whoosh too, they're available from Sept 1943 in the standard 30-metre range variety but in Oct 1944 60m and 100m versions came out..

The number in their data refers to their range in metres (plus a 30k version which is a lightweight 30)
The test below shows a 100 clobbering a T-34/85 at 96 metres range, not bad..

(PS-I don't remember if it hit or not, it was just a test anyway not a proper game)
