Help  Revisiting My Talon Soft Youth
Good day ladies and Gentlemen, My gratitude to the forum for granting my request to join , I was in fact a member of this fine forum many many moons ago when heavily into playing in the main Europe In Flames however I could no longer recall my login details ergo I have been reborn anew as The Wolf Of God  Salute6.

Having recently developed an itch to retro game I rummaged around in the loft and fished out my boxed set of EIF , unfortunately it turned out to be the original Win 95/98 version as the only windows machine at my disposal being my  veteran Sony Vaio laptop which was a pretty decent spec back in the day Viz

Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU T9800 @ 2.93GHz 2.93 GHz
4.00 GB
64-bit Operating System Vista Ultimate

NVIDIA Ge Force 9600M GT

Realising that it would be unlikely that EIF would run natively on a machine sporting Win Vista , I attempted to install the game in Win 98 emulation mode , I managed to progress to the opening scenario choice page however unfortunately upon attempting to run any of the scenario options the game crashes back to desktop .

I would be most grateful for any observations on what I may be doing incorrectly and any considerations or advice what options might be available to me.

Is my laptop hardware of sufficient spec to run this game ? And if in the affirmative should I quest around for a later version of the title that supports Vista / Win 7 ?

My gratitude in advance .

Jasper.

Good day

I don't think you'll get the old EIF games to work on newer systems.

BUT. There is the newer version of JTCS located here:

https://www.matrixgames.com/game/john-ti...ign-series

Which is even getting a new update in the coming weeks!

Hi Jasper,

Welcome back! What was your original call sign at the Blitz? I found a Jasper and a Sgt Jasper. Or something else?

Thank you for your reply Jason , yes I have been eying the Matrix games site and considering a purchase.

I currently do not have a windows machine that can access the internet in order to purchase the game.
Is it feasible for me to make a purchase and download the game via my IMac ( I am aware that the game is windows only) then transfer the game to either burnt to a CD or portable drive , until such time as I build a windows gaming PC later this year ?

I have created an account at Matrix Games , am I correct in thinking that were I to purchase the game via that account that It would be registered to my account and that  would be able to download the game at a later time also ?

Apologies for the many questions Jason.

Hi Dave , pleased to make your acquaintance, unfortunately I cannot recall what handle I used way back in the day … I was playing a lot of IL2 online at that time and It might have been my online squadron handle Das Raven but I am not at all sure of that.
