M109 it is made from M-113.
In fact it is an amphibian ?! :chin:
Most M113 modifications lost their ability to "swim" as opposed to "wade" during the proces due to all the extra gear stacked on to them. Even the original M113 APC with no add ons was not really that great a swimmer, except when brand new.

RE: Bolt out of the Blue 4.4
I will admit theres no real changes right now just a couple minor things but am working on the addition of the BMP-1P into the game but could take some time to track down more info on production and deployment or as much of that as i can find so there will be an oob change in the future along with a more accurate MP/Security unit TO&E, im tryin to track down some good TO&Es of all type of security units in the game to make different values for each unit depending on what they were equip with instead of the generic one being used now. The BMP-1P addition also comes with a ATGM overhaul on vehicle launched systems that does include the BMP-1P (AT-5) over that of the BMP-1 (AT-3), also differences in the different BRDM launch platforms, 9P122, 9P133, 9P137, 9P148 value wise and NATO differences between ITOW and TOW2 for example. I actually have already figured out the new values for these systems but now to accumulate as much info as i can on deployment. But as you can imagine this info on the BMP-1P and the ATGM models is not easy to find if i can find anything more useful at all so i wouldnt sit up waiting for the next update because it wont be for a couple months. Just thought id give u an update and whats going to happen on my end.

Heres what im shooting for:
1. Thermal or not
2. Amphib or not
3. ATGM changes and additions
4. Protection values on IFV/APCs and corresponding units using the same vehicle by using some math to convert protection levels (example: M-113,FV-432,VAB are going to a 28, all truck/Jeep using units going to a 14, M2 and Warrior at 38)
5. Security/MP unit changes mostly value wise but also some structural changes.

RE: Bolt out of the Blue 4.5
For those wondering if theres going to be a 4.6, i have 3 games lined up i would like to play this winter so if there is a 4.6 it wont be till Spring.
4.5 Change Log
***Changed the Partisan symbol in the 2d symbol files to SF,if you dont want it dont use it***
***The weather file is a combination of Zemkes and the Bolt plus something from 1986 and the original HPS weather file, you wont have any problems with any of these scenarios or original scenarios***
1. Leopard 2A1 and 2A2 reduced assault -1 from 23 to 22
2. Lowered the AA value of the SA-4 from a 9 to a 6
3. Changed the Soviet 6th Mot Rif Bde to Guards.
4. Lowered Challenger SA -1 to 25
5. Couple adjustments to Motorcycle movement in the .pdt
6. Removed the ASU-85 and replaced with BTR-RDs in Soviet AB Divisions
7. Belgian Milan Jeeps were marked TRK,changed to MOT
8. Lowered the Mi-2URP-URN HA -3 to 42
9. Added Thermal to French AMX-30B2 tanks (Castor Thermal imaging site)
10.Reorganization of French Helo units and some additional Helo units (adjusted Graphics)
11.Reorganization of British Helo units and some additional Helo units (adjusted Graphics)
12.What would an update be without more changes to the British OOB(I think we got it,last time only small tweaks from here on)
13.Added +1 to SA of AML-90 to 19
14.New drop zones for Brit AT para again, shifted them farther south into the British zone, also changed to Airmobile but at a reduced movement cost because there wasnt enough airlift for the whole Para group
15.Reduced movement on the 24th Air-mobile Bde, not enough Helo assets.
16.Shifted the NATO Corps boundries on the map by changing VP hexes
17.A couple of the Soviet BMP recon units were listed as halftrack, changed to tracked
18.Added some new ATGM vehicles and types of missile, values have been adjusted and graphics added
19.Adjustment in defense values of IFV/APCs,trucks and artillery plus corresponding units using the same vehicles
20.Changed all Bridgeing units to number of men instead of vehicles, also removed all AVLB only type units as they cant bridge a 1 hex river anyways, these type units are unseen in the game when u cross minor streams/gullies during movement
21.Relisted a bunch of company sized units in the game as Kampfgruppes, what this does is keep the unit from getting the penalties they would have gotten as companys. Mostly just engineer, recon and AT units. For example the 3 different companys in a WP divisional engineer Battalion. An * after the end of the unit name means it cant combine to its parent organization.
22.Dutch ATGM PRAT units in pabrig had 12 vehicles not 16, changed
23.Reorg a bunch of Nato units that couldnt combine as full Bn, used different ways depending on situation
24.Reinforcing Soviet Armies that have a Spetsnaz Rota now have the Rota deploy forward when entering the map
25.Added the BMP-1P and BMD-1P to the game, ive got good numbers on how many vehicles and ive deployed them as i felt was correct, the BMP-1P was produced from 79-83 and those vehicles most likely would have gone to new units switching over to mech and these units would be mostly found inside the motherland because GSFG,CGF units would already be equip with the older model, the units that were already equip would have gotten theres upgraded during normal overhauls throughout the 80s so u will find scattered BMP-1P units in the GSFG, CGF and some full regt of them in the follow on divisions plus some scattered. As for the East Germans i just made a guess which units had them. Added graphics (A note on BMP units- even though i have a Bn listed BMP-2 it was 99% of the time 2 companys BMP-2 and 1 BMP-1, and of course if its listed BMP-1 it had 2co BMP-1 and 1 BMP-2 and now with the BMP-1P thrown it it would have made for a mix of BMPs in just about every Soviet Bn. I had 2 options one was to make a generic BMP unit for all Soviet BMP Bns because they all had all 3 models or keep them separated as i have done so far, as you can see ive stayed with keeping them separated but they are below numbers so thats the important thing)
26.Since to many Nato players have not been fighting far enough forward i have taken a page out of Mark Breeds Fulda 81 scenario and i believe he said it best ("Objective Oriented – This scenario is objective based. By this, I mean that the victory conditions should be only attainable through the capture of objective hexes and not the destruction of enemy forces. A war in Germany is going to be won or lost based on how much of West Germany is occupied. Losses matter little. So, “ours is not to reason why, but to do and die.”) I have made VP hexes 4X, yes 4X more important while casualty VP remained the same, i have added some extra VP hexes also so there are VPs to get just about anywhere on the map. For Nato i have readjusted some units on the map to make it more possible for a forward defense.I have readjusted the Victory level also with some mathematical mambojambo and think its close but might have to be adjusted later. Ill make it easy on you guys, theres 289,100 VP points in hexes, the WP needs 38000 to get a minor defeat, 78000 for a stalemate, 118000 for a minor victory and 218000 for a major victory, this does not factor in causalties just straight up VP hexes
27.Reorg of the Grenztruppen, split into Grenzkommando Nord,Grenzkommando Süd and Grenzkommando Mitte and added HQs that have no movement, this will keep the WP player from moving them to the front lines. Took this off my Korea89 scenario. Added new graphics
28.Eliminated the Czech Civilní Obrany (Home Defense) and replaced with the Pohranicní Stráž (Border Guards), of course this brought about a reorg that included a HQ with no movement as i did for the Grenztruppen to keep them from wandering
29.My Bad, i think when i adjusted to new values before 4.4 i accidentally ended up making the NGF,CGF and GSFG HQ a command range of 50,i have reset them to where they should be and separated them graphic wise so this doesnt happen again
30.Changed which artillery units could have WMDs. No WP minors have them and for the Soviets the 2S3,2S5,D-20,2A36,2A65,2S7 and 2S4 are flaged WMD.For Nato you have the M-109,M-110,FH-70,M114 and M-198.But of course its dependent on the country. The Danes only have 1 unit the 203mm M-115,Spain,Portugal,Italy,France and Austria have none. No WGerman M-109s are flagged either just division level M-110 and FH-70 as for the others countrys not mentioned all the platforms listed above are flagged WMDs if they have them(M-109,M-110,FH-70,M114 and M-198) Oh one more, the US M-109 unit in Berlin is NOT flagged.
31.I have put the SSM units in the game, for Nato the Lance,Pluton and Pershing. For the Soviets the SS-1c,SS-21 and SS-23. All these units are flagged WMD but have a HA of 0 and a SA of 0 so cant be used for conventional attacks only WMD attacks, this is also the reason for not adding the WP minors SSMs,they had no WMDs and how much damage can 4 frog missiles do to a Bn anyways. What i like about this is that HQ unit on the other side of the map can be Nuked with the bigger ranges, they also make good targets for your SF to assault or call in airstrikes, this will hurt your opponent by limiting his ability to hit long range targets or massed strikes and he would have to rely on his short range artillery.Added new graphics.
32.Eliminated chemical weapons for Nato, the US was the only country that had them and looking at US doctrine they favored Nukes anyways. So nuke and chemical weapon levels have been adjusted for both sides.
33.Lowered the Max stacking from 1500 to 1200, road stacking is still 1000.
34.Played with the camo unit boxes to make them easier to read, you might like you might not, if not use the old ones.If you use someone elses continue to.
35.Danish Bde level AT units had 16 Tow mounted on Jeeps and 12 TOw mounted on m-150s Changed
36.Since the WP invasion starts at 6am ive made the WP aircraft AVAILable at 6am instead of 8am.
37.Before 4.4 i had interdiction effect at 15%, for 4.4 i had at 25%, i have settled on 20%. 10-12 men per under armor unit and 1 tank per strike
38.Luftsturmregiment 40s values didnt get updated in 4.4, they are now
39.The 46° REGIMENT D’INFANTERIE (Berlin) had a 6 company structure but only 3 were INF with a 4th as support, the other 2 were Command/Logistics and a training company for new recruits. Have reduce the Bde to 3 companys but increased manpower by 20 each and added 1 to AA for the 20mm AAA.
40.Of course some new graphics scattered here and there

RE: Bolt out of the Blue 4.5
Quote:9. Added Thermal to French AMX-30B2 tanks (Castor Thermal imaging site)
As far as I know this was an update done in a hurry for the battalion of tanks slated to participate in Operation Desert Storm and later in the battalions that had the BRENUS ERA extra armor package. The rest of the french armys AMX 30B2s would have had a LLLTV installed.
AMX 30B. Notice no targeting equipment to the left of gun (as seen from the front). Notice mounting bracket for IR/White light projector to the right of the gun. Notice the "bulges" ahead and below the cupola containing the optical rangefinder:

AMX 30B2. Notice LLLTV to the left of the gun. Notice lack of "bulges" due to Laserrangefinder:

(Curiously this last tank has retained the large IR/White light projector to the right of the gun)
AMX 30B2 upgraded with Thermal Sight for Desert Storm. Notice Thermal Sight instead of LLLTV to the left of the gun.
Curiously these tanks also has the IR/White Light projector to the right of the gun (which should otherwise only have been a necessity on the non-LLLTV/TIS equipped AMX 30B):

AMX 30B2 upgraded w. Thermal sight and ERA package for rapid reaction role in the early-mid 1990s. Notice Thermal Sight to the left of the gun instead of LLLTV (same as used in Desert Storm):

Quote:31.I have put the SSM units in the game, for Nato the Lance,Pluton and Pershing.
A little comment: Although the Soviet Union retained custody of warheads (much as the US did in NATO) we know for a fact that the poles and East Germans at least planned and expected to receive soviet warheads for their missiles. The East Germans even squirreled away a few SS23s for this purpose, in blatant violation of the INF Treaty. Caused quite a shock when it was discovered in the early 1990s ;-)
Quote:35.Danish Bde level AT units had 16 Tow mounted on Jeeps and 12 TOw mounted on m-150s Changed
Well, it was not strictly at Brigade level. At Brigade level there was an AT reserve (Panserværnsraket Element) of 2 platoons, each of 4 Landrovers/Jeeps. The rest of the units represents the consolidation of battalion level AT Platoons into extra counters (1 platoon of 4 TOW/M113s came from the Armored Battalion of the Brigade, and each of the Mechanized Infantry Battalions had a platoon of 4 TOW/M113s and a Platoon of Landrovers/jeeps w. TOW). When all of these assets are added up you arrive at the above numbers. Another way to represent the battalion level TOW systems would be to raise the Hard Attack value of the infantry units in the battalions and only have a single counter of 8 TOW landrovers at Brigade level. By the late 1980s the missile used would have been mostly ITOW and all systems would have had Thermal Sights.

RE: Bolt out of the Blue 4.5
The number of vehicles is what i was shooting for in the Danish Bdes so its good, i have them as ITOWs and i wont put them into the Bns and up the values because its a range of 2 on the TOW thats the reason for making them separate. As for being equip with Thermal i must disagree with you on that, one of the big differences between the ITOW and TOW2 was the thermal advantages the TOW2 missile brings, the fact that i flagged the 3 Jeep units now as having thermal in the Danish Bdes is a mistake and they should NOT have thermal. The info on the AMX-30B2s was sent to me from Greg whos French and ill stick with it unless he tells me otherwise. But after he told me i started looking around and from what i read they started installing it in 85 but not on the Helos intill about the time of Desert Storm. I have all the numbers on the East German SSMs and yes i have the SS-23 listed but still the minors couldnt be trusted and i stand by my decision, most of them had only Frogs and Scuds with a few SS-23s around, i believe there was a couple SS-21s around also. The last SS-12 missile was destroyed in 89.

No. The TOW2 (or BGM 71-D as it is also called) is the missile. It can be loaded and fired from any TOW launcher as long as the appropriate upgrades has been done to the launcher first (primarily upgrades to the sight and software). The Thermal Sight is added to the launcher independently of whatever missile that the launcher has been upgraded to fire. Whether or not a launcher has a Thermal Sight or not has nothing to with the type of missile it fires. A launcher fitted with or without a Thermal Sight could potentially fire the newest TOW2B or the 1970s era basic TOW with equal abandon as long as it had received the appropriate upgrades. Danish TOW launchers were fitted with Thermal Sights installed in 1987 (plus some more upgrades to the power supply, cradle and software, thus the launcher and its associated equipment is called "Raketstyr M/87"). It fired basic TOWs (mostly used for training in order to burn up old stocks) and ITOWs at the time and later it fired TOW2s and TOW2As with equal abandon. The sight was the US produced AN/TAS-4. The missile is not important (it is not the thing fitted with a Thermal Sight after all). The launcher is.
According to the Redstone Arsenals homepage the deployment of AN/TAS-4 Thermal Sights to US units started in september 1979. Yet the first TOW 2 missile isn´t delivered before May 1983. How can that be if the TOW 2 missile was supposed to "bring the Thermal Advantages"? Indeed the M901 w. its elevating TOW launcher w. TIS was introduced in the late 70s. How could that have been possible if the missiles it was supposed to fire didn´t work with the Thermal Sight?

I have no doubt that some AMX 30B2s had Thermal Imaging Sights or that they could potentially be fitted with it. It is after all merely a question of switching the LLLTV camera mounted to the left of the barrel out with a Thermal camera and then doing the appropriate updates to the sight and its associated monitor. I just doubt that it was a universal upgrade. At best it might have been done on a couple of battalions or so (the ones who formed part of the french armys rapid reaction corps). Most of the AMX 30B2s would have had LLLTV in 1989. And of the total AMX 30 fleet, the upgraded B2 variants still only comprised about half. The other half would have been the early 1970s vintage AMX 30B. Apparently the speed of upgrading was rather slow.
