To see if the Russian situation was hopeless, I played the scenario as the Allied Powers and the results was a negative score for the Central Powers. It's certainly not a guaranteed loss for the Russians.
The
only hope for the Russians is to start withdrawing on turn one. Standing and fighting anywhere in the center only wears your troops down, so that the Germans can then simply march over/through them.
