I feel your pain as I hate being forced to ditch technology that still functions because it is no longer supported ( I loved XP and like all older people I hate change/learning something new), however it is one of those unfortunate facts of life that this happens on all types of devices, it is not always done as a marketing ploy to force you buy a new device there are times when it becomes just uneconomic or impossible to continue to support old devices.
