I am not a fan for the reason you mention - more clicking around. However I have one PBEM partner that is a fan so I have a couple of Iron game on the go pretty much at all times. I can see the argument for increasing immersion because it does give you a sense when your guys are isolated from their own units. I personally don't feel it is worth it but it does make it clearer when C2 is broken for a given unit.
