Windows 7 and The black screen of death

Microsoft have stated that they are making a fix for "The black screen f death" which has appeared in the last 2 weeks and can affect W7 and XP.
I thought my XP computer was dying as the HDD is 8 years old but maybe not.
I will still get a new one with W7 but will wait to see what Microsoft come up with.
I have XP and SP3 installed which is supposed to ease the transtiton form XP to 7 but can buy an extra program to ease the blending of the 2.
I would appreciate comments from the wise and /or the W7 users
