The wire is more like the same material as shoe laces (probably impregnated is this proper english?)as it has have survived over 60 years. the 16 "wires" are about 1 meter in length or more each. My brother thought it could be something that had a parachute. A sort of starshell or something???

I do one of these trips a year together with my brother (Bernard is his blitz name), mostly at the end of february. The Ardennes are about 300 km from my home which is just too far for a one day trip. Well it could be done in a day but then it is hardly possible to walk 15 km or more. There are battlefields in Holland and Germany that are closer, but the Hürtgen and Ardennes are really something special.
