RE: Normandy (6 June-19 August) AAR
A very late, and out of sequence, report from the German viewpoint due to being rather busy. I think it is worth pointing out to people reading this AAR that the game is ongoing so it is difficult to give some information so as not to reveal plans to the "enemy".

7th Army: Daily report 7th June 1944

The enemy landings are in great strength. Seven infantry, three parachute and at least one armoured division have been identified. Intelligence assets are finding it difficult to track the locations of all the enemy divisions as units of some have been spotted many kilometres apart.

Enemy tactics are crude and I think are Soviet foe would be surprised at the operational simplicity of the Western Allies, not to mention their complete disregard for casualties! Without the massive superiority in the air and in terms of fire support it is doubtful if any great progress would have been made.

Although advances have been made it is mainly against second line troops who have fought well and bravely. Special note must be made of the great contribution to te defence being made by Luftwaffe AA units.

1st SS Pz. Corps has now taken responsibility for the eastern part of the front.

84th Corps: St. Lo

The enemy have pressed inland from both their landing sites.

In the Cotentin peninsula the lodgement has expanded by a few kilometres but is being contained by 91st and 709th divisions. 6th FJ Regt has secured the line of the Merderet north of Carentan. Strong forces are being deployed to reinforce the containment line,

The easterly landing north of Formigny has made small gains, of about 5 kilometres, at its eastern end. In the west they have failed to break into our defences and are still pinned on the beach.

1st SS Pz Corps: south of Caen

Our diversionary counter attack against the British aiborne division east of the Orne has achieved its purpose. The British have diverted large scale reinforcements across the river to support the parachutists who have taken heavy casualties. Whilst our casualties have been substantial the equivalent of 2 regiments have severely battered one division and forced the redeployment of at least 2 more.

West of the Orne enemy forces have advanced steadily and have pushed back our screening forces 5-8 kilometres. We have surrendered the northern suburbs of Caen but a defence of the southern part of the city and the riverline is achievable.
