Battle of Alsfeld 1985

Ellerbee knew the M1s of his platoon and the M3 cavlary tracks guarding the north flank were dead. He had heard the desperate calls as they had been engaged by enemy armor. Burning with rage he ordered his driver to break cover and head north.

Maybe some of the crews had managed to bail out...

Scaning the terrain through his commanders sight Ellerbee could make out the shape of a Soviet tank hidden behind somke.
"Gunner, two o'clock, tank - fire Sabot!"
"Identified!"
"Sabot UP!"
The M1 rocked as the 105mm erupted. Ellerbee could at first not make out if they had hit the enemy tank - but then it moved, it had not been knocked out. Dammit!
"Driver halt!", he ordered. "Sabot! Now kill the sunnavabitch!"
The gunner had the enemy tank dead centre. 700 meters. He could not miss.
"On the way!"
The sabot round bounced on the front hull of the enemy tank. This was bad, real bad. Ellerbee fired the smoke dischargers...
