A great loss. He was a fine historian and a master of the English language. If you read the history of war, Six Armies in Normandy and The First World War should be at the top of your list.

I just learned of his passing while scanning the posts. What a loss for us all. Six Armies in Normandy is one of my favorite military history titles, but any one of his books is worth reading.
