Deuling Updates?

Can someone with update version 1.02 pbem with someone who uses 1.03?

The standard answer is no. Both players must be on the same version of the game. It makes sense from a fair play POV.

Also, I think that Klaus K and I had this happen a few months ago- and the result is the standard, "error reading scenario" type of error when trying to play with different versions.

In our case, it was the exact case shown here -- Ren 1.02 and Ren 1.03

What I had to do was a fresh install of Ren and then patch it up to version 1.02.
