				Scenario Creation Question

I'm trying to make a few scenarios for the Long War mod, but I've hit a roadblock: I can't open up multiple OOB files when I start a new scenario. I did it once, the first time I tried, and now I can't remember how, and I've read through all the help files. It's probably so obvious I missed it...

Any help is appreciated!

				RE: Scenario Creation Question

					Hi Mad_Dog

Not quite sure why you want multiple OOBs open. Did you want to copy some elements of one OOB into another? If so, open the OOB file you want to copy from, select unit(s), Data> Copy then go to File> Open and select the new OOB you want to past the unit(s) into. Once it's open go Data> Paste. In other words, don't have two copies of the data editor running at the same time, do it all from within the same editor.

				RE: Scenario Creation Question

When I use the scenario editor, I have to have Canadian and Taliban forces in the same OOB file? I think I just answered my own question.:)

But while I have your attention, how do you create a new .map file for SqB?

Thanks a lot for your hard work on the Long War as well. It looks awesome! I hope to whip up some Canadian scenarios soon, once I do a little more research.

...
You open submap.exe , from inside open one of the maps available and then select the area you want to use, add or remove any labels, and then save as a new file.

				RE: Scenario Creation Question

I was wondering how to create a whole new map, so I'm not tied to the ones that are premade. Do you need some kind of graphics program for that?

There is no map editor available for the SB series.

Someone should talk to Mr. Tiller.

Except for AotR and ES , where the Geomapper utility allows for some increased flexibility since you can create new maps from scratch by combining the 20+ available geomorphic maps (ASL themed).

The lack of a map editor has been a point of discussion for several years on the boards I've frequented.

The discussions I've read deal mainly with the fact that most games have fairly large swaths of maps to pick and choose from, and would allow a wide range of new map space for scenario design. Most of the earlier games have had a large number of post-release custom scenarios designed for them, which reinforces this line of thinking, in general.

Perhaps Rich Hamilton can weigh in here, since he is the HPS SB guy on the boards....

Yep. I managed to create a new one for the AIW mod (Suez Canal) as it was relatively easy to do. All the rest are just different sections of existing maps. There's a lot of large maps that ship with the game that aren't entirely used, so there's plenty of new material to work with. And with the new graphics, existing maps can look totally different.
