RE: Normandy (6 June-19 August) AAR
8 June. 22.00 (Allied turn) 8316 VP. Allies Major Defeat.

VII Corp (Caretan to Valognes)
Inland advances show a line from Fontenay Sur Mer, Valognes, Colomby, Etienville to Carentan. Also make make contact with V Corp at Auville.

82th ABD slowly advancing against 91th Luftlande. 2km far from Colomby. St Sauveur bridge blown.
101th ABD attacking Carentan. By 12 .00 Carentan is isolated. Carentan taken by 20.00
4th ID Montenburg taken by 10.00. Valognes 3km far.
90th ID: moving to front lines.

V Corp: (From Isigny sur Mer to Bayeux)
The last bunker at Omaha was taken by 14.00 assaulted by combined elements of V Corp. Closing to St Clair Sur L’elle (Lison, Le Molay-Littry and Crouay taken)
Isigny sur Mer taken by 16.00.
Rangers played a great role: they lock the encirclement of Omaha and hold any breakthrough attempt.
Also Port en Bensin and Escure reached, only two km far from British troops.

1st ID Vierville strongpoint taken by 12.00.
2nd ID help in Vierville fighting.
29th ID concentrated AT fire from 29th and 1st IDs break resistance at Vierville bunkers.

30th Corp (From Bayeux to Evrecy)
Drawing a line from Bayeux, Tilly sur Seuelles, Rauray, Granville to Mouen.
Panzer Lehr division made sharp attacks against 50th ID but they hold their ground (helped by PaKfronts like)

79th ArD pushing and encircling beyond Caen remanents of german 352th ID. Joined Port en Bessin fight.
50th ID: Fontenay strong points taken aided by armor from 8th ArB. Cheu and St Manieau reached.
8th ArB takes Tilly Sur Seuelles by 16.00
22th ArB (Desert Rats) from 7th ArD pushing beyond Caen remanents of german 352th ID. After some mopping they left to unknow destination to enemy.
4th ArB movements unknown to enemy

2nd Canadian Corp (Caen area)
Panzer Lehr division made sharp attacks against 2nd Canadian ID but they hold their ground (helped by PaKfronts like)

2nd Canadian ArB: Crossed Caen bridge near Cormelles. Fighting against 12th SS PzD.
3rd Canadian ID: west of Caen, clashing against 21th PzD. Caen Airfield taken bt 12.00

1st Corp (Orne-Canal de Caen area)
The heavy fighting area of whole invasion without discussion, little terrain gains, great casualties for both sides.

27th ArB: by morning lights clashed with 12th SS tanks around Demouvlle all day long
1st and 4th SSB: atacking the Steelworks.
3rd ID: fighting around Touffreville against PG’s of 12th SS and 21st PzD
6th ABD: After a brief resting, they joined to Toufreville attack.
51th ID:Moving to front lines.

Douvres pocked eliminated.

Two notable facts makes this day a great day for Allied forces:
V, VII, 30th and 1st Corp are united (only Port en Bessin and Comme’s bunker holds, the last two german strong points). Allied are a continuous area between Mortenburg to Caen.
Casualties of landing, parachuting, Omaha and general fighting are far inferior than inflicted upon Axis, thous Allied has 8000 VP due location and a total of 8316 VP

RE: Normandy (6 June-19 August) AAR
A very late, and out of sequence, report from the German viewpoint due to being rather busy. I think it is worth pointing out to people reading this AAR that the game is ongoing so it is difficult to give some information so as not to reveal plans to the "enemy".

7th Army: Daily report 7th June 1944

The enemy landings are in great strength. Seven infantry, three parachute and at least one armoured division have been identified. Intelligence assets are finding it difficult to track the locations of all the enemy divisions as units of some have been spotted many kilometres apart.

Enemy tactics are crude and I think are Soviet foe would be surprised at the operational simplicity of the Western Allies, not to mention their complete disregard for casualties! Without the massive superiority in the air and in terms of fire support it is doubtful if any great progress would have been made.

Although advances have been made it is mainly against second line troops who have fought well and bravely. Special note must be made of the great contribution to te defence being made by Luftwaffe AA units.

1st SS Pz. Corps has now taken responsibility for the eastern part of the front.

84th Corps: St. Lo

The enemy have pressed inland from both their landing sites.

In the Cotentin peninsula the lodgement has expanded by a few kilometres but is being contained by 91st and 709th divisions. 6th FJ Regt has secured the line of the Merderet north of Carentan. Strong forces are being deployed to reinforce the containment line,

The easterly landing north of Formigny has made small gains, of about 5 kilometres, at its eastern end. In the west they have failed to break into our defences and are still pinned on the beach.

1st SS Pz Corps: south of Caen

Our diversionary counter attack against the British aiborne division east of the Orne has achieved its purpose. The British have diverted large scale reinforcements across the river to support the parachutists who have taken heavy casualties. Whilst our casualties have been substantial the equivalent of 2 regiments have severely battered one division and forced the redeployment of at least 2 more.

West of the Orne enemy forces have advanced steadily and have pushed back our screening forces 5-8 kilometres. We have surrendered the northern suburbs of Caen but a defence of the southern part of the city and the riverline is achievable.

RE: Normandy (6 June-19 August) AAR
9 June. 22.00 (Allied turn) 9350 VP. Allies Major Defeat.

VII Corps (From Caretan to Valognes)
Inland advances show a line from west of Negreville, Valognes, Germain Turnebut, Videcosville and Morsalines. Also make make contact with V corps at Auville.

82th ABD Colomby taken by 10.00. Douve-Negreville reached by night.
101th ABD After resting they move and take Sainteny without a fight, I presume german have retreat to bocage.
4th ID Valognes taken by 14.00. Trapped and destroyed 7 infantry formations from 91th Luftlande division and 2 AA formations between Monteburg and Lieusaint, helped by 82th ABD. This division spreads from Valognes mainly
90th ID (attached to VII Corps): Spread from Monteburg to Morsalines bunker, taken thanks naval fire, thus encircling aumeville bunkers system.

V Corps: (St Clair sur L’elle to Anctoville)
Also Port en Bensin and Escure taken

1st ID relocating
2nd ID gathering
29th ID relocating
2nd AD attacking Airel crossing

XIX Corps

30th ID: gathering.

30th Corps (From Hottot to Evrecy)
Pressing through Evrecy and Orne Bridges.

79th ArD resting
50th ID: advancing to Maltot-Point 112, by 20.00 two batts were assaulted by Lehr units causing severe damage, they were retreated for resting and rebuilding.
8th ArB: attacking Baron, Esquay and St Martin. Inflicting heavy damage.
22th ArB (Desert Rats) 7th ArD: Baron, Esquay and St Martin. Inflicting heavy damage.

2nd Canadian Corps (Caen area)
Pressing through Evrecy and Orne Bridges.

3rd Canadian ID: attacking Eterville, pushing back defenders, Mallot reached.

1st Corps (Orne-Canal de Caen area)
Trying to dislodge 12th SS from Caen last suburbs, temptative attack from 4th ArB was not succesful althought it allowed some good advances in other areas. Demouville and Touffreville taken.

4th ArB (attached to 1st Corps): attacking Grentheville and Cormelles. Armored batts from 3 panzer divisions rushing to confront 4th ArB, hard pressed by massed tanks, panzergrenadiers and great AT fire from german guns this brigade stopped their attacks and slowly get retreated. But they fight for a reason: they inflict damage to those AT guns, giving free hands to 27th ArB, that hammerd german infantry, artillery pounded those 88 mm guns and 51th ID are crossing Caen canal, followed by 2nd Canandian ArB.
Plus the timed offensive let 7th ArD and 8th ArB make a thrust at Pt 112 without fighting against a good amount of panzers.
27th ArB: joined the battle of 4th ArB.
2nd Canadian ArB (attached to 1st Corps): : Crossed Caen bridge near Cormelles. Fighting against 12th SS PzD.
1st and 4th SSB: Steelworks taken by 04.00 after a fierce fighiting. Trying to push through Caen southern suburbs.
51th ID: Pushing through Caen southern suburbs.
3rd ID: fighting around Troam against PG’s of 12th SS and 21st PzD
6th ABD: Made fierce assaults against combined elements of 12th SS, 21st PzD and 346th ID, causing severe damage, later they reached Troam, attacked by three sides right now.

Bunkers system at Franceville taken.

Overall situation: It was a good day, not a fantastical one but good day.
Valognes taken, Aumeville bunkers system isolated. It’s good.
V Corps troops after Omaha experience are almost ready to add their weight into battle.
British forces are facing main enemy forces but rotation and resting let british forces stay in peak conditions (unless 4th ArB).
Only two hexes of Caen are in german hands and british troops are within 2 km of Caen main road.
The VP bounty this day was about 1000 VP, that’s good.
