				RE: CMAK - Mundial - round 1

Hello everybody,

First of all I'd like to thank Bootie and Poor Old Spike for assuming a
priori that I am a cheat whose real intention is to give away passwords
to CMHQ players if not for personal gain then at least for the sake of
increasing the chance of the tournament being won by a Polish player.
Very clever of you to figure out my true motives ;)

Joking aside, the password clause is primarily meant to give the umpire,
that is me, a possibility to quickly check if a game has been properly
set up. You must admit that the set-up parameters are a bit complicated
and taking into account the tendency of some players to skip through
such instructions (by the way the rules of the competition have been up
for over a month now, but somehow no-one raised any objections until
today :) I fear that mistakes are not unlikely to occur. I'd rather be
able to spot them now than in a month's time. Additionally, as MGK
rightly pointed out, the umpire might use the password to resolve (in a
fair manner) all those battles which are not complete at the end of the
round but have reached a specific number of turns. Actually instances of
a player's conduct being challenged for some reason or other were last
on my list. Anyway, such an arrangement has been used in some
tournaments organized by CMHQ and worked fine.

Having said that, I am obviously in no position to force you to provide
your password and I'm not going to require you to supply it now as long
as you're willing to do it upon request. Somehow I trust your honesty.
However if problems with the scenario setup do occur and some games will
have to be restarted, be it on your head ;)

And one more thing. The results of the draw indeed may leave the
impression that this is a CMHQ versus Rest of the World tournament
especially in the context of this silly World Cup hype that still
appears to be going on here and there. Let me spell it out once again -
this is an INDIVIDUAL tournament. Please do not see it in terms of "them
versus us". It is every man for himself. No teams. The actual pairings
are due to the fact that drawing CMHQ players against Blitz/FGM/AF was
the simplest way to keep the promise that in the first round players
from the same club will not be drawn against each other. Rest assured
that in the following rounds this will no longer be the case.

Kind regards and good luck in the tournament

Stirlitz
