Strange Spotting Problems
I'm playing East Front "Thunder at Banya pass" Using Matrix edition v1.04 all options except EA and VV on. And I'm not spotting stuff when it op fires on me. I have actually been playing quite a bit the last couple of weeks and so far it seems uniformly that if something op fires at me it gets revealed. I even assaulted a hex and did not get the contents revealed. Is this just something I have not noticed before or could it be a conflict of players using different versions of the game maybe?
If a man says something in a forest and there is no woman to hear him. Is he still wrong?

RE: Strange Spotting Problems
in 1.04 there was a change that means that some anti tank capable units under a certain size, 75mm IIRC have a chance of not being spotted when firing. could this be what you are experiencing?

Unless you had spotted the whole hex first some units may still be unspotted when you've assaulted, I think the only way to be sure to show them is to retreat or destroy the already visible in a hex and try to move into it normally then they will become visible.

Hi Otto I'm pretty sure I am being shot by T-34's. And the only unit that has appeared in the hex I assaulted is a riderless motorcycle, wich managed to kill 4 tanks!

If it is a tank, maybe they are shoot/scooting?

No this is Op fire during my move coming in some cases from adjacent hexes.

Are you playing with extreme assault turned on?
If so, were you assaulting into a town?

Have you updated to latest patch?

Just askin'. Farmer

The only thing that fired that I have seen that does not appear when you are adjacent are small caliber AT guns. Units that do not fire sometimes pass the spotting check and are not seen until you try to move into the hex.

Good luck.

Latest patch I see at matrix 1.04 and I got it. Extreme assault is off.
Thanks

RE: Strange Spotting Problems
Ok mystery solved sort of. As another turn progresses I see that yes in fact i was being shot by small AT guns.

The assault problem best I can figure is this. Rule is usually you don't see into a town unless you try to move into it. Somehow before I tried to move into the town I spotted the transport. But not the other stuff. So I could not try to move into the town I had to try and assault it. Got badly repulsed and all I can still see is the transport. This last I consider to be a bug not a feature if you are next to something at a minimum you should be able to shoot it especially if it shoots at you!

Unfortunately for you there are other units there with op-fire turned off or unspotted..........if you see the transport unit before moving that will be the only unit you will see until you eliminate it and then try to advance again at which time the other units will be spotted......whether we agree with the rule or not is irrelevant..........however there are a lot of players that frown on using empty transport units to block an advance etc..........me being one of them....I usually won't play anyone that uses this tactic more than once..........just sayin" :-)
