Hi Ratel
Welcome to the SP ladder.
As Vesku said (good on ya for doing so..) there are players here willing to help you get back in the groove. A mentor game isn't scored (or perhaps agreed as a draw before starting, or whatever), it's more of a running Q&A game where you can hopefully learn some new tricks without getting thumped for your trouble, as such.
Or...just dive right in.
Get yourself patched up.
If you have not played for a while, you might not be aware that the CAMO guys posted the game from DOS to Windows OS a while back.
You'll need to get the latest versions from Shrapnel (they host the SPCAMO team).
Shrapnel forums are here

winSPMBT is here

winSPww2 is here

Download the base level game and all the patches, patch them up in order, and away you go
Vesku was correct, MBTv4.5 and ww2v3.5 are the latest versions.
Have a look at the game guide, it comprehensive, but all the info you'll ever need is in there.
Or, ask questions at the Shrapnel MBT or ww2 forums...or here, of course.
You'll need to play and post the result of one game to get out of Boot Camp, and that'll get you onto the main SP ladder.
You have 3 months to score that first game, or you'll be sent a warning of being dropped out of bootcamp. Once on the main ladder, you only need to post 1 game per year to remain Active.
Make a post on the forum here asking for a game. try and be specific and ask to play something that you are interested in. There are a few ideas kicking around as to how to set up a good PBEM game, but no hard and fast rules per se.
Just negotiate with your opponent and have fun

Cheers
