It's a Long Way to Tipperary - Round 4
It's A Long Way to Tipperary Round 4
Round 4 starts Thursday, November 20, 2025, 0000PDT and ends Thursday, April 23, 2026 2359PST.

Title: Salerno
Software Version: 4.05.3h2 (Complete the Round at this version)
Scenario: #440523_01_Anzio_ Buffalo
Title: 440523_01: Operation Buffalo
Scenario Length: 48 turns
Round 6 Length: 48 turns * 3 days + 10 days = 154 days
First Side: Allies
Please use the recommended default rules
Artillery Set Up, Recon Spotting, Virtual Supply Trucks, Low Visibility Air Effects, Quality Fatigue Modifier, Counterbattery Fire, Night Fatigue, Programmed Weather, Limited Air Recon and Delayed Disruption. NO Explicit Supply or Use Wireless Intercept.

Notes:
  1. This is the stock scenario which by theblitz comments is well balanced. The ALT version appears to have balance issues.
  2. 48 turns is long, but it is offset by some tournament scenarios being shorter that 30 turns. This scenario will test your multi-day management skills.

My apologies to the organizer and other players, but I must respectfully withdraw from this Tournament.

With the dropout we need to even out the number of participants

Is there anyone out there who wants to join this tournament?
Is there anyone on the AXIS side who wants to drop out?

Otherwise, I will join to even out the numbers.

Witblitz, stay tuned for your opponent.

The scenarios have the same balance issue: very limited objective points relative to victory levels, just like the El Alamein scenario in the first round. It does look like a considerably more interesting scenario than the one for the first round, even if the Allies are likely to lose. I look forward to playing it.

Check out 440523_01: Operation Buffalo - PzC 13 Salerno '43 - TheBlitz

The comments appear to indicate that the scenario is balanced, although the results suggest a pro-axis tilt.

I checked that. The two players calling it Well Balanced won Axis Major Victories and the only Allied (Major) Victory was by someone who had also won a Major Axis Victory.

If the Allied player captures every objective on the map, he exceeds the Major Defeat threshold by 101 points. It's quite possible the Axis position will fold at some point, but it's certainly a challenging scenario. Loss points being more important than objectives might work for a campaign game, but for small or medium sized scenarios it's not ideal.

I played the “_Alt” version of the scenario as the Axis and I can say that even in that version, the only chance of success for the Allied player was to inflict as many losses as possible on the opponent, given the low value of the objectives. Perhaps in the chosen version, the ally has a few more opportunities, given that the infantry and German paratroopers do not possess offensive HA, meaning they have very little chance of countering the allied tanks. Furthermore, I believe that their anti-tank guns are quite vulnerable, thus compromising a valid defense unless armored vehicles are employed. In any case, in my opinion, the Allied player will still have to make a great effort to achieve a result that is not defeat.

RE: It's a Long Way to Tipperary - Round 4
On my Salerno '43, Version 4.05.3h2, this is a list of scenarios that fit the time frame of the tournament, i.e., approximately 30 turns or a minimum of 2 sets of night turns. For reference, I included the theblitz.club scenario record, (i.e., "Axis 2-0-3" means Axis had 2 wins, 0 draws, and 3 losses, and "Allies 3-4-15" means Allies had 3 wins, 4 draws and 15 losses).

It was very difficult to select a scenario from this list, and I went with the one that I though was the best fit, and provided a multi-day challenge.

I am looking for guidance on which scenario to use for the tournament, and I am happy to change the scenario.

Arguably, it's hard to pick a scenario if most scenarios have only been played a few times.

I don't mind playing a scenario I might very well lose if it's entertaining. Scenarios that seem gimmicky are frustrating to play, but the Operation Buffalo scenario offers a good fight. Everyone is also competing for the prize from the random draw, so anyone can win something. As I said, I look forward to the challenge, but I do agree with the assessment that the objective points are off (as they are in numerous scenarios across most titles, I may add).
