ME Problem
I can not get the hex outlines to show. I have selected Hex Outlines under options menu but nothing happens. What am I missing? Game is unplayable as is.

Go to Display on the menu and "uncheck" Hex Contours.  You hexes should appear.

In the forthcoming ME 1.01 update, Hex Contours & Hex Outlines have been decoupled.  You will be able to toggle on/off each of those map features separately.  And both will be able to show at the same time
