Purchasing infantry in CMBB

c_Question Mark  Purchasing infantry in CMBB
I have played Allies and Axis a few times, with a number of games in progress, however, I have not experimented much with the different infantry in CMBB [late war] or different levels of quality. So, for example I have tended to select either the Volksgrenadiers or Jaeger 44 at regular quality. [Subject to the vagaries of the AI changing unit quality]

In truth I have found that they are very fragile and no doubt I should learn better tactics in handling them but I am interested in what infantry do "you" usually select and why?

RE: Purchasing infantry in CMBB
Hi Roger, how's things? :) I always try and get some pioneers as a support platoon as they can be usefull with their satchel charges etc when in close quarter combat or when up against amour. The only thing is I feel they need some extra firepower and so team them up with light MG that can keep up with them when on the move ...

ps - up for another game one day?? :)

RE: Purchasing infantry in CMBB
Depends on what you envision their mission being. Look at the firepower differences by range. If you envision a close up assault or city fight then SMGs and Pioneer make sense. If you envision engaging at range then Panzer Grenadiers make sense. If you are going to move fast around a flank consider Jaegers or Recon troops. If you are facing tanks, Panzer grenadiers with their grenade bundles or Pioneers with their satchels are good.

My default pick is usually Panzer Grenadiers as all round fighters, the good old stubblehoppers. But, I do pick different units just to gain experience with them, e.g. volkssturm, sturmtruppen, luftwaffe.

I usually always accompany them with some mg's, panzershrek.

Conscripts, greens don't really stand the fire like a man, they are not really good for attacks. They are better for defense, you can buy more of them because they are cheaper (I think).

Crack, Elite units are virtually unpinnable, you can absorb a lot of fire with them.
