Deadly cannons - Napoleon in Russia
Playing big battle in the Napoleon in Russia game.  I am the Russian.

Brother and I have played several Tiller games, several Napoleonic (Spain, Austerlitz, Jena).

He thinks the Russian guns are too powerful, destroying the numbers and morale of entire stacks at even moderate ranges - something he has not seen in the other games.

They are deadly, have broken up several attacks so far.

Any opinions from other Tiller Napoleonic fans?  Ones that HAVE played Napoleon in Russia?

(We've gamed this series quite a bit over the last 4 years, and we both gamed the older versions in the Battleground series, as well as Civil War and WWII Tiller games - we are not newbies).

So this is the battleground game not Napoleon's Russian Campaign from HPS/JTS, correct?

The first thing I would say is that you need to avoid stacking multiple columns within range of batteries with 12 heavy guns...Easier said than done, I know....

but without seeing the game it is hard to say. I have not played NIR in more than a decade...

No this is the newer Napoleon's Campaign in Russia, it is not NIR.  NIR was not so deadly with the Russian cannons now.  I made the mistake of choosing the Ghazk battle early in the invasion.  Mistake, lol.  More French than you can shake 30,000 cavalry sabres at.

Yes they are deadly. And there are a lot of them.

You can lessen the effect by deselecting Column Pass Through Fire. And even more by playing in multiphase.
