Reflections on the bolt out of the blue. - Ol_PanzerGut - 08-29-2025 I've recently engaged in the massive Bolt out of the Blue scenario...  This thing is the most MASSIVE PZC scenario I've ever played... I wonder if I've bitten off more than I can chew... and yet I persist... and my opponent is still there awaiting my turns... so for now I will march on. I also wonder if we can complete this before I age out lol. Currently on turn 65 of France '40, only about 200 more to go. I WILL retire before it's over, so that might speed things up...   RE: Reflections on the bolt out of the blue. - ShipwreckedFool - 08-29-2025 To be honest I feel like playing these big scenarios are the pinnacle of the series and it is difficult to be as invested in a 20 turn scenario once you've played (or even just started) one. RE: Reflections on the bolt out of the blue. - Dog Soldier - 08-30-2025 I recently completed the large 0917_02_Market_Garden "It Never Snows in September" from the Scheldt 44 game with a dedicated Blitz member. I have played many large campaign games during my time on the Blitz.  This was the first one that went to the very last turn. All the others ended early with surrenders by my opponents due to RL or other reasons. Maybe I should shower and brush my teeth more often during those long, large scenarios.    Dog Soldier PS. I agree with SG that in many games where one side surrenders because the game was out of reach and therefore no fun for one side. Now I have cleaned up. Smell of rich mahogany and leather-bound books. RE: Reflections on the bolt out of the blue. - Steel God - 09-01-2025 Have played a LOT of campaign games, including many that would be considered "Monsters".  More than a couple have gone to the very last turn, simply because the players were committed to doing so and not because the game was in doubt.  I've also played in many where one side surrenders because the game was out of reach and therefore no fun for one side.  Both are acceptable conclusions to me.   In regards to Bolt Out of the Blue specifically I have never played it, considered it recently, as well as Certain Strike, but we opted instead for the Gotterdammerung Scenario instead and are glad we did.  That one ended in a mutually agreed upon tie (we optioned for Nuclear Termination Optional Rule so went into it knowing that was the likely outcome, and in my opinion all of the Europe based MC campaigns should be played that way).
