K'42 isolation question - The_General - 06-08-2025

Kharkov'42 ver. 4.05.1 - scenario #27 One Piece at a Time_Alt

Do you have any ideas why ALL Russian units are isolated ??

RE: K'42 isolation question - ComradeP - 06-08-2025

Are there any Russian supply sources inside the pocket? I don't see any in the screenshot.

RE: K'42 isolation question - The_General - 06-08-2025

No supply sources (hexes) but they still have supply to the map edge.

RE: K'42 isolation question - ComradeP - 06-08-2025

The map edge is only used for supply tracing when no supply sources are present, otherwise a path must be traced to a supply source.

Actually, ComradeP is half right. The map edge is used when the Virtual Supply Trucks optional rule is not used. In the screenshot that optional rule is in effect making all supply dependent on a line being traced to any Soviet supply depots for the pocketed troops shown.

Thanks for the explanation.

Not according to the manual. As long as there are supply sources, they supersede map edge supply with or without VST. Without VST, local supply will use the highest value of the supply sources that can trace supply to a hex, instead of local supply depending on VST calculations.

Quote:Example 4 – Local Supply Values
In the above examples Local Supply values of 65 were used. This is less than that of the Supply Source value of 66 as it is assumed that the Virtual Supply Trucks optional rule is used. This rule reduces the supply value in relation to the distance from the source and the terrain traversed.

If this rule was not used, the supply value would not reduce and the Local Supply values in these examples would have been 66, since the units traced supply to that Supply Source. If no Supply Source existed, then the Local Supply values in these examples would have been equal to the Global Supply value of 70.
