A Week in Binh Long - Jason Petho - 01-08-2022

As previous stated, there are two "A Week in..." series scenarios that have you commanding a formation over the course of a week. 7 days, 7 nights, with different missions every day.

Here is a planning map that is included in the manual.

You will see the main AREA labels, these will be the area of operations that you'll have to "clear" on a daily basis.

You will also note the road labels, these will be the routes that your engineering task forces will also have to clear on a daily basis.

Here's a screenshot of the situation on Day 4.

It is the beginning of the day and I'm still ferrying my troops around to their new firebase locations and new area of operation for the day.

Supplies are en route.

Reinforcements are arriving and being assigned to their areas.

Engineer task forces are out on their daily tasks.

The Viet Cong have been elusive so far, but I know they are out there.

RE: A Week in Binh Long - Compass Rose - 01-08-2022

What a great idea/feature, as that is very realistic.

Is the unit out on patrol, on their own, for the whole seven days or do they make it back to their base camp and go back out every day/night to patrol or set up ambushes, etc?

Can't wait to see the finished game! From what screenshots you have offered and from your recent Twitch Streams, it looks like a super fun and well put together game.

Thanks

In its current form:

You start with three battalions of one brigade (the amount of battalions increases as the days go on through the campaign).

Each battalion (three combat companies) is assigned an area of operations that it must perform a "search and destroy" mission in. That will also involve building a firebase during the day at a designated location (basically build two trenches in the assigned area). In most cases, the combat portion of the battalion (plus their attached 105mm battery) will remain in their firebase overnight.

Securing the Area of Operations will be to capture all the objectives in that area. Additionally, one will also be patrolling and performing search and destroy operations - if one has time, the areas are large.

A supply run from one of the main bases (Loc Ninh, An Loc, or Chon Thanh) will have to be done every day to every firebase. The roads are generally terrible, so expect that to be a time consuming affair.

The next day will see them being assigned a new area of operation when the process will repeat.

The scenario slowly builds up to a bad day, especially if your search and destroy missions were for naught.

Of course, there's never enough of everything.

Sounds like "alot of fun"!  Wink

Thanks for posting all the extra details.

RE: A Week in Binh Long - Big Ivan - 01-08-2022

Yeah, like Jason says, there is never enough of everything!

This is not World War II Campaign Series players where ground troops abound.

In this scenario and others, you are given the minimum to complete a military mission. Get it done with what you have at hand!

Oh, by the way, conserve your force, don't get too many casualties! You will need your platoons down the road reasonably intact for other missions! Wink

The French are the link between WW2 and the U.S. in VN.
