PzC A/I Slider - Lethal - 10-26-2020

Looking for an explanation about the PzC A/I Advantage slider.

Any clues on this?

RE: PzC A/I Slider - Ricky B - 10-26-2020

It adjusts the calculations in favor of the side it is moved toward, for some of the combat results. It may impact a limited set of other calcs too but I am not aware of any. Sorry, I don't have any details and the manuals are the same.

This is a feature carried over from JT Campaign Series to PzC when S41 was released.

As Rick says this is a feature that is very rarely used as most people PBEM here and so the slider is always set to give no advantage.

The lack of information on its effect means it is impossible to predict just how powerful its effects are, I don't think anyone has ever bothered to run tests to find out.

RE: PzC A/I Slider - Green - 10-26-2020

Well, there is always someone mad enough to have tested these things. It was a while ago but from memory the combat calculations for the AI are done normally but the results are increased or decreased by the percentage selected on the slider, depending on whether it is positive or negative. But the final result is still constrained by the normal possible range of results.

For example if the slider is moved to 50% Allied and the Allied side is handled by the AI, then the combat results of the AI will be the lesser of the normal result increased by 50% or the maximum of the normal possible range.

I think.

Works for me Big Grin , thanks for sharing.

Read post #6 on this thread which explains exactly what is missing in the Panzer Campaign Series, which confirms the result of a survey on PZC conducted several years ago.

Of interest the new AI in the Campaign Series mention in the aforementioned post #6 is being coded by our very own Berto who programs the Civil War and Panzer Battles series for WDS/JTS.

No promises but we will be seeing if we can use any of those ideas in those two series. WDS does not have the bandwidth to code Panzer Campaigns so there isn't a possibility (currently) of the same change happening with that series.

I used to set the AI to 50% advantage but now only play large campaigns on H2H, PBEM is not a option.

Strela

Love what you are doing with the series and Panzer Campaigns in particular. But it is true that the PzC AI is the weak link, particularly if 91% of players are solely single player. Games like TOAW IV have a much more powerful AI feature.

Looking forward to Scheldt '44.

Best of luck,

Hi Lethal,

Good to see a fellow Aussie here at the Blitz!

For clarification, the AI is actually quite good in PzC, if it is scripted sufficiently. The tools are there in the editor and the AI setup is much more robust than it was when the series first started. That said, the amount of scripting done comes down to the scenario designer. Bill Peters for example, did a heap of scripting for Japan '46 that helps that game play very well vs the AI. This is partly due to him scripting at a lower level (usually regimental level)- essentially for every turn. The norm is usually to put scripts in at divisional level for every five turns.

The other thing to remember is that no one has gone back and scripted titles that came out before the big AI improvements later in the series. Titles like Smolensk, Normandy etc were released before the new AI and have not been re-scripted. So there will be some variations dependent on when a title was released.

I know the recently released and upcoming titles have had a lot more work in this area and players should see the improvements when playing solo.
