In the above pic, does anyone know what does IF and DF stand for and/or do?

Thanks

Offhand, I think it might be: IF = Indirect Fire , DF = Direct Fire

Thanks Steve.

I forgot there was a weapon data dialog for this series.

So now the $24,000 question is what is the difference? According to the weapons data, Direct Fire is for ground targets only. Well, what other targets are there!!?? I am guessing I would use the Indirect Fire on those "other type of targets", whatever they might be.

Indirect loads have a trajectory so you cant fire on a target which is within minimum range. In most of the cases that minimum range for big guns exceeds the limits of the map. Direct fire allows you to fire on targets that are in LOS.

RE: Artillery Loads - Dog Soldier - 06-04-2011

Does the "X105mm DF" shown mean this gun can not fire over open sights?

I am not sure what the gun crew's nationality is from the image in the first post. I thought the US forces used guns of at least this caliber to "bunker bust" around Nancy in 1944 and in other battles around the Siegfreid Line that Autumn in 1944.
I read some time ago that just the appearance of such large caliber guns in a direct fire role caused the Germans to abandon the bunker position than try and survive the coming fire.

What am I missing here in SB terms?

It is an American 105mm from the KW game
