Computer problem, save and sleep mode - Montana Grizz - 06-10-2008

If I leave my computer unattended for more than 5 minutes, it enters a sleep mode. Now, that is usually no problem because I simply wake it back up and I'm right back to where I was when I left.

However, if my computer enters a sleep mode when I am playing the game, when I wake it up all I get is a colored screen with no units on it. My only option is then to exit the game and restart.

Therefore, I always save the game when I get up from my computer just in case I happen to be gone long enough for it to enter the sleep mode.

Is there something I can do about this problem other than extend the times I have before the computer enters the sleep mode?

It would be a bit of a hassle having to change them every time I open a game and then change them back when the game move is finished. I can see having to do this several times per day!!!!!!

Thank you,

Pat

MG switching the screen off and on should refresh it if you don't want to change the sleep settings.

cheers

If you have VISTA
Go to your User control panel and look for power options settings

Go into that section and on the sidebar is an option to change when this computer sleeps

choose the settings in the next screen to suit your needs from the drop down boxes

Then go back to the sidebar and select choose when to turn off the display and do the same thing.

This should stop the laziness thing :)

Thanks guys, but I don't have Vista (XP) and I can't turn the screen off on my notebook.

For XP, it's essentially the same as for Vista. Try going to Control Panel, then Power Options. I think there is a setting that turns off the Sleep mode.

I appreciate the information Afro, but I was really hoping that I wouldn't have to make that change.

What is it about the game that causes this?

Now, according to the site rules, if this happens and I am required to start the turn over, I have broken that rule and subject to heavy penalties.

Actually, Pat, you may want to review ROE #14. It may be enlightening? :smoke:

cheers

There will be a way of refreshing your screen without having to restart. I have a notebook at home and when I get time I'll have a look at how to do it..... or are you just making a point in relation to the save thread?

I will read ROE#14 Roadrunner, thank you.

I would very much like to solve the problem I am having with refreshing my screen Stryker - no attempt to make a point here.

Thank you for any ideas you might have in this regard.

Pat

My bet is with your video card. Sounds like it isn't doing a screen refresh when it comes out of sleep, not sure why -- memory maybe. Make sure you have the display set to 16-bit mode and not 32. Also, check to see if there are any driver updates. How much ram do you have?

Sometimes control-alt-delete and opening and closing the task manager will fix screen problems. Wouldn't hurt to try. While you have it open, see if there are any running processes that you can quit.

Lastly, do a google search and also search the forums for your make of laptop. The manufacturer might have a fix.

Good luck.
