Should we award ribbons? - Weasel - 10-13-2007

Randy (Red Devil) approached me and asked if we should award ribbons to players for accomplishments that do not merit a medal, but are an achievement none the less. These items might be a win streak, or creating scenarios or maps etc. I have pondered this and have decided that it is a pretty good idea.

So, I would like you guys to tell me what you think a ribbon should be awarded for? Right now I figure on awarding for win streaks at the 5,10, 15 etc level, and also for submitting maps (5 at least) and scenarios (5 at least) etc.

Also, there are two sizes of ribbons but I would like you to determine which you prefer, a smaller size of 30 x 40 pixels, or the larger size of 80 x 10 pixels. You can see what they would look like on my ladder page. The 5 in the small ribbon would denote 5 wins in a row. Once you had 10 in a row the 5 would be replaced with a 10. Also, since 5 is a hard number to reach, should we award at 3, 5, 10 etc?

Now, if you had won 5, then lost, then won another 5 should we award a bar, or just leave it at 5?

Anyway, take a look and tell me what you think. Also, if you think that awarding of ribbons sucks let me know too.

Ribbons are good.. another thought.. perhaps for those that partcipate in a tourney from start to end could earn a 'campaign' ribbon?

Ribbons are a good idea. I don't see too many building maps or scens and even fewer creating a large number like 10, so you could think numbers like 2,4,6, etc. A small ribbon (30by40) isn't too much to ask if you spend a weekend building and testing two maps :)

Hi Steve; Tournament masters are awarding their own campaign medals now, so that would be a duplicate award.

Hi Vesa; You are right, not too many take time to give back to SP. The numbers I came up with are not in stone, just ideas. My theory is to reward those that contribute. But, is building two maps worth recognition?, not sure. It is something but is it note worthy?

Also to note, these ribbons will not be retroactive. I am not going to sit here going through alll 500 Sp members determining who had a streak and who did what six months ago, the counting will start once the ribbons are created.

Maybe it is worth if the ribbon motivates a flux of maps and scens. But as always it is up to you, I don't know what your motive is for the ribbons.

Hi Chris
I like the idea of ribbons.
I like the smaller one with the 5 in it.

I think making them hard to get for streaks, ie. 5 rather than 3 is better.
Submitting scenarios and maps is good for ribbons too.
Go for it I say.

I must say that your medal collection is very impressive cheers

Jason

Check out Red Devil if you want to see a crap load of medals, he looks like one of the those Russian generals with medals on both sides of his jacket, with CONTINUED ON BACK on a sign.

Chris,This sounds like a good idea to me. At another forum for a different game, they award medals and ribbons, and it works really well.

Count me in.
