PC: 20mmL113 should have rage of 2 - HirooOnoda - 05-06-2007

My research has the 20mmL113 having a range of 2,200m, thus in PC it should have a range, at least against soft-targets, of 2, not one.

That is all.

As a general rule of thumb it is best to restrict a units range to 1 hex if it has < 20 attack rating. But anyway, my data says that the only LAA guns with a max effective horizontal range of 2km is the 40mm Bofors and the 37mm FLAK guns.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But even the 37mm FLAK has a range of two in N'44.

Thus the same problem occurs.

Also, I still don't see how the 20mm FLAK could be expected to have a range of only 1km given the ability of the weapon.

Thanks for your input VM.

i always thought of the PzC weapon range as being more
than simply a measure of how far a unit's weapon can
shoot but more of an abstracted measure of the unit's
fire doctrine and training. cross-wind, temperature, barrel
wear, barrel warp etc. all have an effect on the hit
probability and modern fire control systems try to compensate
for this. tank crews of the second world war had to make
do without computers and thus were trained not to take
extreme long-range shots. wastage of ammo, potential
gun malfunction and giving away the tank's position were
and still are good arguments to hold fire.

HirooOnoda Wrote:To think a weapon such as the 20mm which has a muzzel veloctiy of 900 m/s and greater mass would have a noticably shorter range than an 8mm which had a muzzel velocity of only 755 m/s defies logic.

Muzzle velocity will typically increase maximum range, but increased mass often (but not always) actually decreases range. Heavier rounds are usually larger in cross-section, which increases their air resistance and slows the round quicker than a small round.

...and you are correct.

This thread also illustrates nicely how one persons reseach and opinion my differ from someone elses.

I read the initial thread and the follow up naming Normandy as one of the games, but I still didn't see a componet called:

20mmL113
20mm L113
or
L113

...so unless I am looking at exactly which component the player is questioning, then I can't do much with it really. Also, the Normandy OOB was crerated by Wig Graves and he had some rather definate ideas o why he did things certain ways. I can usually look at OOBs that I created and correct any errors *if* indeed the value is\was the result of an error.

I don't promise to change everything, but I will look if I have enough info to know which component is involved. The surest way to provide the info needed is with a BTL file and a hex ID, sent to HPS Support, but then again everyone knows this by now I expect.
