20 metres area-fire buffer zone - PoorOldSpike - 03-30-2007

This live-fire test shows that the CM program won't allow tanks to area-fire closer than 20m to friendly infantry which is comforting to know..
I also ran it again with 105mm Stugs but surprisingly it's still 20m despite the bigger blast.
I haven't yet run it with small or very large guns.

The game assumes infantry to be evenly spread within a tile, thus this 20m pseudo safety distance. In fact there is not any.

standard distance between single infantry men (in german army) was normally 4-5 meters when in employed formation and so one can see that a squad of 10 men would distribute more over 40-50m, instead of a standard 20m CM tile. Internally this is taken into consideration and a HE shell that appears to land 20m far off an infantry squads 3D icon and causing a casualty, might in fact be a direct hit on a soldier that is abstractly assumed to be farther away (from the graphical representation of the squad).
