Hello gentleman, I've been reviewing scenarios for my next battle (starting on the last page and working back). I came across the EF, von Earlmann classic "The Cauldron of Fire". When you download the files, they've apparently been replaced with the files for "The Battle for Ponyri" by Edward Hayes, which uses the same file names. So, some questions:

1. Does anyone have the Cauldron files?
2. Is there a way to 'fix' this problem in the scenario database?
3. Was von Earlmann one of the players here at theBlitz? Is he still around?

With that aside, for us scenario designers, it's important to try to use file names that haven't been already taken. This can be difficult when all you can really check is the stock scenario filenames. Unless there's an easy way to check the hundreds of contributions to the scenario database, which I don't think there is.

Hi Tony,

Try this old post. Let me know if they're correct, they should be since he posted them: https://www.theblitz.club/message_boards...on+of+fire

If they're good and you can change the file names to something unique and keep the scenario name as is, feel free and I'll swap them out in the database. Even if you can't, let me know they're correct and I'll swap them out anyway. Actually Jason knows how to do that, so I can ask him. Anyway, let me know.

BTW, Mike West always put his initials in the file names to prevent duplicates with other designers. I always thought that was a good idea.

Thanks,
Dave
Thanks Dave, those files work fine, so now I have his great scenario. I played this to a draw as Russians 14 years ago. Anyone want to give it  a go?

[attachment=5047]Tony and Dave,

Tony and Dave,

Attached above is the scenario files for Edward Haye's The Battle of Ponyri.

I modified the files to now read Ponyri_EH for the map, org and scn. Then reconfigured the scn file (Hayes creation) with Notepad so the scn file picks up the correct map and org files needed for the scenario.

Doing this will eliminate the file conflict with von Earlmann's scenario Cauldron of Fire which uses just files named Ponyri. Both are loaded on my rig and work just fine.

Very Special thanks to Edward Hayes and von Earlmann for their fabulous creations on the Battle for Ponyri.

Regards to all,

John
