If there's one thing that's bugged me about Serbia '14, it's that the brush and the clear look the same.

Then, tonight, I finally noticed that brush has a little dot in the center.

While that helps, it's still lower quality that I've become used to.

Can anyone speak to the design thoughts behind this bit of graphic "meh"?

Was it just a placeholder that never got replaced?
Are you using custom terrain graphics?

There's a notable difference between Clear and Brush hexes using the stock graphics.

The Brush graphics contain a number of green "spots" which does occasionally make it difficult to see at a glance whether it's a Forest or a Brush hex, but there's a visible difference between Clear and Brush hexes.

No custom graphics, just what came with the DL. My "brush" shows as a single hex-centered dot.

I have checked several of the scenarios:

Some hexes have four and some have three dots. If there is a road in the hex, then there are only two dots.

Which scenario is that screen from?

Update: I am still on version 1.0

I will download and update to version 1.01.

Installed version 1.01 and no changes found from the above for the brush terrain.
The terrain in the getting started scenario looks like this in both 1.00 and 1.01:

As you can see, several terrain graphics (marsh, village, brush, embankment hexsides for example) don't match yours.

My map subfolder in the Serbia '14 folder also doesn't contain alternate graphics that match yours.
I am seeing the same as the others, no idea why you have single dot brush hex's??

Perhaps someone can send me the graphics files, so that I can catch up?

While I have modded many older titles, I have not screwed with this one.
Have you tried removing the Map subfolder of Serbia '14 and copying the France '14 Map subfolder to the Serbia '14 folder? They're the same size and as far as I can tell include the same graphics.

I don't have EP '14 installed at the moment, so I'm not sure whether the map graphics for EP '14 are identical to the other two titles in the series.

This worked. The coloring and the gradations is subtly different (more "moist"?), but the brush definitely looks like the brush I'm used to.
The tile background colours might seem "different" because elevation in France '14 (also) uses 50 meter increments, whereas elevation in Serbia '14 uses 100 meter increments up to 600 meters. That's why elevation colours don't match for the same height level between the titles.

As far as I know, the series all use the same background colour "range" from blue/green to brown/red.
