I have been adding leader pictures to the France '40 HQ artwork but need some assistance in locating a good source for the Allied leaders - particularly the French. I had no real trouble with the Germans but so far have only located about half the Allied pictures. I have used www.generals.dk which is fantastic but does not always have an associated picture. If someone could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Did you try Google or Wikipedia?
Yes, I have. Wikipedia is good as it often has an entry for the unit in question and links to the unit's commanders. Sadly a photo is often lacking for the lesser known. Google is my last resort but can sometimes produce results when all else fails. But my experience is that after 3 or 4 searches, if nothing turns up, I am probably wasting my time.
If I cannot find any better sources, I will just call it a day. It would be nice to fill the gaps but is no big deal. Actually the France '40 artwork is so good that it needs no 'improvement' by me. The only thing I noticed that probably should be changed is the unit artwork for the German 254 Inf XX. It has the symbol for the 8th Inf XX, due no doubt to the similarity of commander names (Koch and Koch-Erpach). The corrected version is attached.

Green,

Thanks for the correction to Herr Koch. I will include it in future updates.

As far as leader images. I made the decision to not include them in the Gold Updates unless they were already present. The only PzC games this was the case (that I know of) was Kharkov '43 and Moscow '42 as I did them all(!).

Knowing the amount of time required to find them and then create the actual artwork was just too prohibitive to do for the subsequent games. I'm not planning to do it for any of the remaining PZC Gold updates as I believe the Volcano man Divisional crests more than adequate.

As far as where to find the images for your mod, yes you're looking in the right places. Generals.dk is fantastic and I do have some specific sites for German and British/Commonwealth if required. I think they may even be listed in the PzB Normandy bibliography. As far as the French, no I don't have a website, but I bet there is a French Language site somewhere. I can ask one of our French speaking team if he knows of any, if you like.

David,

Thanks for the advice and the kind offer. If there is a French language website, that would be fantastic. Having got this far, I would like to finish the job.

I can understand why you decided it was 'too prohibitive'. It is a big job and it is not needed. The Gold updates are amazing just as they are - not to mention they are free! You cannot ask for more than that. France '40, for instance, is like a whole new game. It just blows me away.

And I am a big fan of the Volcano man Divisional crests. So, I have just added the pictures on the side without changing the existing art. This makes it more cluttered than most people would like but suits my purposes. I have always seen it as a strength of the system that you can modify the art to match your own peculiar tastes.
