This is making me a little crazy and I've been pouring through the 525 different PDF Help Files to get an answer...but how do you COMBINE squadrons back into a larger unit?   My thinking is that it has something to do with one of the squadrons being the core unit, sort of like skirmishers, but for the life of me I can't find it and haven't tried hard enough to figure it out.   I've tried to do this and the result thus far has been doubling the number of squadrons, not combining them which just exacerbates the problem.

I'm playing a few massive games right now and have tons of cav from the start that have been broken down and i'd like to recombine them so that I can play my turn faster and my opponents replay will be faster...No point in having 200 units to move when I could be moving like 30.

Help?

Thanks!
The base unit has a reduced strength percentage and doesn't have 'squadron' printed in in it's info card. You can determine if a squadron and it's parent are the same unit by their OOB individual unit listing (bar below unit image). Place the parent and child(ren) units in the same hex. Highlight the child unit and click the squadron button in the toolbar. This should recombine the units. Sometimes I've run into a legacy bug (or OOB mistake) which disallows the recombination.
The same process can be used to recombine skirmisher's with their parent infantry battalion. Hope this helps.

Thanks Geoff, will give that a go.  I can do it with Infantry as it's easy to identify the infantry because they are in column typically, not skirmishers.  I guess I just rarely if ever do this with cavalry and when I tried it today all of the cav squadrons split in half into more squadrons.  Really, i'm only doing it to make you and I's game go faster - me for moving and should save 10 minutes on your replay time.   Big Laugh
In our game the cavalry can only breakdown once. Therefore you must be trying to recombine with a different squadron. Make sure you match the troops up with their specific squadrons.

Just realized the problem.  I'm trying to combine what historically speaking are "squadrons", but in the game are not squadrons, rather they are individual units that can be broken down once, but can't be combined with each other.   Too bad.
Yes, for the games I helped on after Wagram the OBs are structured such that for cavalry the Squadron is the core unit. For Waterloo, NRC and Bonaparte's Peninsular War the core unit is (usually) the regiment.

If you go to breakdown the parent regiment unit in Waterloo/BPW/NRC and it only has ONE squadron worth of manpower then the "cadre" in fact becomes an independent squadron and the regiment can never rebuild. So look for the units (squadrons) in Waterloo, BPW or NRC that have WHITE lettering for the manpower and strength percentage values. For the cadre its going to be in a different color - ORANGE. Dont try and break down the cadre if its the only thing left. It will change its manpower color to WHITE .... and thus become a squadron like the others.

Hope that helped.
