Playing the Hoth 's Gamble scenario as the Russians.  I have infantry in two bunker hexes with one between.  Th e Germans have moved into the gap with infantry, armor, and 88's. When I try and fire on them I get the message that I'm exceeding the range .Sorry I can't give more info but away from my computer and on my tablet.  Any ideas on this one?

Hey Mark, do you have more than one type of unit in bunker(s) in question?  Is it possible that you might be trying to fire as a stack? All I can think of is if that were the case, you might have a unit that is not capable of firing at a hard target.

What title is it from?  (Granted it sounds like an Eastern Front one) - one of the Moscow ones, maybe?

Some units have a hard fire range of 0. That maybe the issue if firing at armour.

We would need more specifics to be able to trouble shoot...

It's from Stalingrad '42.  I'm trying to fire with infantry in the bunkers against the German stack .The German stack contains armor, infantry, and guns.  I only have infantry in the bunkers and I would assume that I could shoot the infantry.

What optional rules are you using?  Usually direct fire is at a unit-if you are firing at a 'stack' with a unit that hasn't a hard attack factor(or 0 range) , it won't be able to fire at an armored unit at a one hex range.
But there is infantry in the stack. Shouldn't I get the pop-up giving me a target choice with armor grayed out?
Okay, finally got sat down in front of my home computer with the game file.  The scenario is Hoth's Gamble from the Stalingrad '42 Gold edition.  I'm playing as the Soviets and I have infantry in the bunker in 105,15 and infantry and an AT gun in the bunker in 103,15 and the Germans have infantry, armor, and 88's in 104,15.  I can fire the AT gun at that stack but when I try to fire the infantry I get the message that I'm exceeding their range.  Shouldn't I be able to fire at the infantry and AT guns?
Bunkers treat units, even infantry, as having a hard defense. In the (alt) version of that scenario which I assume is the one you're playing, the infantry do not have a hard attack range. This is why infantry can't "shoot" into that hex that has a bunker. You can refer to the manual for the effects of bunkers and hard defense.

Hope that helps

Well heck, I didn't notice that it was a captured bunker hex.  Thanks!

Appreciate the answer too,  that seems to be the answer in that in initial version (stock I guess; maybe non-alt if you will), the Soviet infantry has a hard attack strength.
