Full Version: Sp scoring may need tweaking

I have been thinking about the scoring we use on the ladder and I think there is a problem with it.  Right now, no matter how long or short a scenario/game is you score the same.  I normally play 45+ turn games but because Walrus is busy we grabbed a random scenario that is only 11 turns long.  What I realize is that this tiny scenario will score the exact same as someone who invests a year into playing a huge scenario, to me that doesn't seem right.

What I am thinking (still not sure it is possible) is have games scored on the standard but also on the number of turns.  A game of 12 or less turns would score 1/3 points, a game of 13 - 24 turns would score 2/3 points, and a game of 25+ turns would score full points.

Your opinions are welcomed but please make sure they are constructive and add something.
Good point.
I agree with your plan.
It's the same logic as the Meeting Engagements not being worth the same points due to Delay and Defend taking more time to set up.
At least that's how I see it.

Does this just apply to playing pre-made scenarios...or are you able to put a new input field into play for all games to include game length?

Cheers
Walrus
Not sure, will have to talk to Raz and the powers who know about DB stuff. I would think a drop down box would be easy to select and then a math formula behind the scenes: mission x result / length = points

If possible I would bring this in for Jan 1.

Weasel,

Just how many more rules are you looking to introduce, what with all your house rules for the game and just because you like to play +45 turn games, not everybody wants to play hours of +5000 point games.

Try bringing this type rule up on the CS forum and see what response you get.
You could also play smaller games too and who knows you might even like them, they can be a lot of fun without all the hassel of setting up these titanic games.

You decry the loss of players on this forum, well maybe it might just be that all these rules have put off many people playing this great game here.

Nonsense, house rules are up to the players, use them or don't use them, nobody forces you.
Fact is Weasel's house rules solve a lot things that the game simply lacks and makes it much more realistic and by that enjoyable.

I'm also for more points in bigger/longer scenarios, btw that was already done in the club, just look at TOAW where huge scenarios get extra reward:

Personally I would like an overhaul of the scoring system, all we have now are 9 result levels ranging from overwhelming victory to overwhelming defeat, and that result gets only modified by 2 if playing an Assault or Advance.
TOAW is again a good example how to make it better:

A system that considers map size, force size and length of the scenario, so that players playing huge forces on huge maps in long scenarios get the reward they deserve.
House Rules? They are NOT house rules. A "HOUSE RULE" is a rule that is to be used unless otherwise stated, the rules that are posted are ones I like to use and are posted for others in case they wish to try them. They are NOT mandatory and NEVER have been. I asked all players to post their rules and no one did, not my fault.

I am speaking with the DB guys right now, if it is possible to do, which I am sure it is, then it will come into effect.
