Full Version: Scenario design question?

Hello everyone,

The following question is geared to the Middle East Project I'm working on, but could also have an impact on other CS projects in the future.

If you could have a scenario that had a good map, good order of battle, a good force mixture, and an interesting mission; however, it was not all that historically accurate would you still be interested in the scenario? By mission oriented, I mean breaching a fortified line, a meeting engagement, river crossing operations, air assault operations, a combination of all of these, or a whole host of other military missions. Before starting a bunch of work, is this something that would be of interest to the Campaign Series community in general? Or, is it complete waste of time to go down the not so historically accurate path?

Take care,

Jim vK
Good to hear from you Boss!
Nothing is historically accurate once you start moving the troops around?
And, I found that most scenarios designed with "historical accuracy" above all can be boring as snot.
I like the scenarios where balance and fun can be found within a battle. If you have a couple units that might not have been there it would not spoil it for me.
Like TV shows that are "based on real events" the designer should be able to take some liberties to make the scenario entertaining.
I've said it before, if I want historical I'll read a history book.

Regards,

Ed
I'm all for it Jim!!
Hey Jim:

I love those type of scenarios. I'm a gamer first, historian second. Like HSL, I believe most scenarios are a "version" of reality. Some go to great lengths for historical accuracy, some want a game you can enjoy. If you can do both and keep them all happy...good luck...;O)

Dan
Historical or fictional. All good. Just spell it out in the scenario description.

Sure Jim! I mean, look here what I did with a PB situation conversion:

Typical 1967 Mobile Action: The Battle of Crossroads. Advancing Israeli mobile units scatter remnants of shattered Egypt units during the push on Sinai. Here the vanguard of the Israeli 10th Mech Division pushes its way through the battered Egyptian 119th Rifle Division, whose top command level is trying to recover from an unfortunate fragging incident the previous day which took the lives of both the division's commanding general and senior commissar officer.

Sounds like tons of fun doesn't it!

And all I did I changed a few keywords such as 'German' with 'Israeli' and 'Soviet' with 'Egypt' from an existing Panzerblitz Situation #3 description.

Go for it Helmet Smile
I would play it.

I have been kicking the idea around of modeling hometown, USA into a CS map, just for fun. Eventually maybe I would end up making a "Japanese Invade California" scenario in Rising Sun, hahaha.
