Gents,

I have had this happen so many times over the years it's not funny & it has caused so many problems, it's even less funny. I can't tell you the number of email games I have played that simply ended mid stream because of this.

Player A sends his move. Player B receives move, makes his, but sends the file from the last move. Player A gets the move & over writes his file thinking everything is OK but when he starts the replay, it's the replay from the previous move.

How do you guys handle this? It's been a real problem for me.
I keep a folder called !!Old-Turns. After I make my move and send to my opponent I move my turn into that folder, so I can never overwrite a turn (unless I forget...no comment). However, that won't do much to resolver your opponent sending you a wrong turn, a forgot-to-end-the-turn turn, or a Hi Frank, here's my latest (my name's Dave). In those cases I just pour another cold one.

Frank, uh, I mean, Dave
If I cannot get a file to work, which normally is my opponent not ending the turn, I ask the player to check the file. If he can still open the turn he would need to close it.
Heck, mistakes happen?
You only need to deal with your frustration over waiting longer for the turn?

That's a great idea!

Thanks!

I think you misunderstood the issue. The issue is one's opponent sending back a file that was a previous move. Not realizing it, you over write your own last move. When you open it up, you realize it was a previous move but now you have overwritten your last move.

The other gent had a great idea. I created a new directory where I will just move my last move file into it after I send it to my opponent. Then, if for any reason he has a mix up, the new file will not over write my last move & I can just resend the file.

Brilliant in its simplicity!

Hi ,

I do it so similar to Dave. Every one of my opponents has in my mailbox a folder where each mail is stored for each game. If a train is lost or confused or something I can be overwritten from the stored mails always find the last play and send again.
I never had to finish a game because of it.

Glad I posted this question. Simple & effective solutions to an issue I've had to deal with for years.

Thanks everyone!

Sorry. Definitely I misunderstood.
I would ask my opponent if my file was still in their download mail slot (part of e-mail and download). If so they would play the turn I sent. If not I would ask my opponent if it was alright for me to play the turn they sent, even if I had advanced knowledge of the turn.

Your situation was one of the reasons I did not like the idea of an "old" and "older" file included in the upgrade. Too much confusion already?

I agree. The Old & Older file generation is a complete waste. I see zero use for it.
Under the Options menu one can uncheck "Backup Saves". That will stop you having the Old and Older bte files in your folder. You'll still have to delete any existing ones.

These are intended for tracking down bugs.
