can those campaigns (not scenarios/battles) be played H2H by PBEM or 'live" ?

for example pike and musket one (renaissance)
I think you need to provide more detail, what game or game series exactly do you mean?

for example "The Renaissance' since its most unique imo in terms of Timeframe

and basically all other ww2 titles, like tunisia, normandy ,sicily etc

i suppose some of them can be played and some cant in H2H since you asked which ones i meant.

and i say all of them (Ww2) because i would pick the one which allow h2h campaign over another which doesnt allow that, even if that other game which doesnt allow h2h campaign is set in the theatre that i like more
Well, this board is for games using John Tiller's operational campaigns systems, i.e., Panzer Campaigns, Modern Campaigns and First World War Campaigns. I'm not aware of any scenarios or campaigns in the PC versions of any of these games that can not be played H2H. Tiller's HPS and John Tiller Software company Civil War Campaigns games all support H2H, too. I think the mobile device versions are pretty much versus AI only but I'm not into those and am not the one to ask about them or games for other eras or by other designers.

Hope that helps.
What I know:

ModernCampaigns, FirstWorldWarCampaigns and PanzerCampaigns don't really have a Campaign. They have very large scenarios (100+ turns) which in fact represent a Campaign.

Napoleonic games, CivilWar games and Renaissance I think (here I'm not sure) also have a real Campaign (use cp_start.exe) with several separate battles with strategic decisions between them. They can be played against AI or PBEM.
Regarding campaign play Sgt Jasper and KAreil are correct that the operational series(ModernCampaigns, FirstWorldWarCampaigns and PanzerCampaigns) have scenarios that are depicting a whole or a part of on operational campaign, I can add to this that in France '14 there is an attempt to make a "Grand Campaign" by modifying the operational campaign scenarios and that not only within France '14 but also in East Prussia '14.
Take a look at http://www.hist-sdc.com/spotlights/fwwc_f14.php and check out the Designer's Notes under Game Documents, that should give you the details.

The tactical series(Napoleonic, Civil War, Early American Wars and Musket and Pike) has a campaign engine that links some scenarios together, usually depending on the campaign there are many or few choices to make and for each choice there is a corresponding scenario, the result of this will have an impact on the next scenario played within that campaign.

Usually you can expect that the scenarios, no matter if it's a game from the tactical or operational series, are made for H2H play mainly unless noted otherweise, some titles have special variants of the stock scenarios that are adjusted to play against the AI, this is more often the case on the tactical series(Napoleon, Civil War, Early American, etc.) than on the operational.

Anyhow just go for a title/series you find most interesting, no point in toying around with anything else as it simply won't bring you through the learning part of these games.

You should also look through this webpage, it has a bit more to provide on most titles than the John Tiller Software webpage.
