Hi
Ed describes in his first title France 14 the way combat was conducted by the Germans, and if the player retries it in the game he sees that it actually works pretty well.

Now I'm searching for informations on how combat was conducted in WW2 specifically by the Germans, has anyone a good source or can recommended something useful?
Personally I still have some different expectations on how things work in game but that may be because of my poor knowledge on combat tactics at the battalion level.
For example I expected the artillery to have a much stronger effect, but besides turning populated areas into rubble and I don't see it very often disrupt an enemy.
Same counts for the stubbornness of the enemy, some would expect a battalion assault with 500-600 men to eliminate the enemy, instead it ends with the enemy unit having less than 10 men but it is still an obstacle, it is hard to understand how you an kill & capture hundreds of them in an assault but somehow miss the last few guys that have to be finished off next turn.
Cheers
