Hi,

Am having issues installing update 2.02.

Did a fresh install from original Matrix disk.

Downloaded zip file from Matrix no problem.

Tried to install update and keep getting "decompression issue" message popping up in Windows box.

The box allows me to 'abort' 'retry' or 'ignore.'

The update installation issue kicks-in pretty soon after it begins - somewhere in East Front.

Am using Windows 7, 32bit OS.

Any ideas, anyone ....

Cheers.

Try to download the file again, could be that your download is corrupted. If you have security software try to disable it while you do the installation.

If this does not work I would recommend running chkdsk to ensure it's not an error caused by your hard drive, could just be that specific file.
What is the path you used to install JTCS? It's good to install in a position other than the default C:\Program Files~. Better to make a Games folder in Windows Explorer, then install it into that, so C:\Games\Matrix Games\John Tillers Campaign Series\East Front, etc.
Hey guys...old fart checking in...
I downloaded the 2.02, but haven't tried to install as of yet.

I'm running the 2.0 version, which, as advised is installed in a different location than the default original game folder. Works fine, just have to remember to start the game correctly.

My question is should I install the patch over the 2.00, the original, start from scratch, etc.?

I'm running Windows 7, 64 bit. Not sure that matters...when I searched the forum pages this was the first topic I found that relates to installing 2.02...hopefully this is the right place or if not and this information is located elsewhere please point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance for any information to help this old fart get it right the first time.

Regards,

Dan
Cheers Dan,

The recommended installation would be from scratch, but should you decide to install over 2.00 you *should* be allright.

Having said that, I'd do a clean install myself, it is not such an effort methinks.
Hey Petri...thanks for the reply.

I don't look forward to re-installing the entire game...think I'll try to load it into the 2.00 folder and go with "should"....;O)

I'm sure you're right...it's not such an effort...for you...lol...but some of us are digital cavemen...;O)

I hope the future update projected for later will be a more streamlined process.
Well if you think about it the current installation procedure is about installing first the base version everyone's got from their CD or Digital Download, that's either 1.00 or 1.01, then applying the latest cumulative all inclusive patch on top of it.

From that point of view, installing 1.04; 2.00; 2.01 or 2.02 all follow the same procedure, that of the base install + patch install.

What you are observing of course is that given 2.00; 2.01 and 2.02 came relatively close to each other, performing the full install each and every time becomes or at least feels like bit of a chore.

So with the coming 3.00 version in 2016 everything should remain the same, albeit with a possibility we could have tools available to actually create an install that not only adds new files, but can also remove outdated stuff.

Installer like that could be the difference where we could actually 'officially' recommend installing patch over an existing install is supported. Helmet Smile

I hear what you're saying! But this is what it looks like from this side of the fence: which ever installation method we recommend that creates the least amount of issues, well that's the one we are giving a thumbs up, not the others.
