Got CS installed and updated to 2.02. Woot! King Dance

Then I got a PBEM game. Uh, how do I put in the game folder. Doing the normal click on the C drive and then to Matrix CS and then to EF did not work.
When I got to EF all that was there were scenario files.
And there was no way to put the file into the game folder. Hang

Gosh, I sure know how Earl feels! SOS
This is the most frustrating thing to have to experience.

I started a new campaign because I could not load my saved files too! Upset

Ugh! Confused

Anyone want to point me in the right direction?

Ah, the Mystery of the Disappearing Files, brought to you buy everyone's favorite operating system Angry5

I think what is going on is that Windows 8.x at some stage started to direct trafic towards its default folders, which for me is the Windows OneDrive. So when previously save files went to the folder where the programme making saves resides, now they go there unless a specific location is given.

I am pretty sure (?) this is a one-off situation, and I think this will make it to go away for good. You might need to do this once per game though, I am not sure this is a strangest thing at times.

This is the fix that worked for me anyway:

1. Fire up the game, open up a new battle like Boot Camp, immediately go to File->Save
2. In the Save As dialog, make a note where the game (or Windows, rather) wants you to make the save.
3. Instead of saving there, navigate to West Front folder or which ever game you are playing, and save there instead.
4. Close the game, West Front or which ever.
5. With File Explorer go to location Windows has as your default (OneDrive in my case), copy-paste the files from there to West Front (or which ever).
6. Fire up West Front. Now that you've saved there it should from now on look from its own folder instead. You should now see the other files there as well, the ones you copied from OneDrive or wherever.

And that's it. If you've not needed to look for a file like when you need to send the BTE file to your PBEM opponent, this might have gone on for some time. I bet you will find your missing campaign files from there as well.

Again, I don't really have my finger on what is going on but I am pretty sure this is it. So once you've made a conscious save to game folder Windows will let you be.

Hope this helps. It is all very annoying especially as you have no idea what is going on at first, when this starts to happen.
Hello Ed,

I exactly do what I have always done. Open email - open turn - got to C/JTS/ WF.

Are you doing these things from your desk top or from the Windows 8 menu screen?

I do everything from the desktop as it is the most similar to XP.

Thanx!

Erik
Thanks to both. Thumb Up2

I think I got confused by what the new Win 8 calls things and where they are located. Spell Book
Having a desktop app added really helped.
I'm getting around a bit with a little less ugh. Hamster Wheel
It will take some getting used to, to really feel comfortable again. Farmer

But, I am trying!
And, I do like the speed of the new box. What I'd Miss

Did you find your previous saved files?
I feel your pain. I finally got a new computer with 8 and even still after almost a year I can't find simple things. It just seems so weird to me that this really is the new Windows.
They were never saved (or able to be found). I hooked the old machine up and e-mailed me the files. Thought it was a simple work around. TEEHEE

I think 8 will take some getting used to ... until 10! Shocked

I'm calming down but still "miffed". Voodoo Doll

I can confirm the File - Open/Save functionality was altered by the Windows OS changes. This requires a coding change, which has been implemented and tested in "Middle East".

For MCS you will have to wait until the next 2.1 PATCH is out. It is planned to arrive in 2016, after ME and VN are out.

Until that, everyone using the newer/newest Windows OSes please be aware of this new "feature".

Again, once you do a Save As to game folder, all the remaining saves should go there.

If a game save seems to have gone missing, please look at the default save folder the OS version you use suggests, the files should be there. The Windows default save folder can be viewed by looking at the location the Save As dialog proposes.

Anyway, this is how it works for me. There are so many Windows versions out there your results may vary, unless you are still on XP where this should not happen at all.
